changing table? Is it really necessary?
Not sure if a changing table is really necessary. DH and I already have some furniture that we are using but it is a 5 drawer tall chest, and a small dresser that is only 31" across. Which I don't know if it is big enough to use as a changing table. (most changing pads are 33"). What do you think? Should I get a changing table in addition to what I have? The nursery is pretty small so It's either I get a crib with attached changing table otherwise i think the room will be too tight.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
I definitely want something to change the baby on... I can't see myself sitting on the floor or even the bed/couch etc.
So we will either get a dresser to accomdate a changing pad or a changing table- I guess it will depend what furniture we get/how big everything is etc
We have space issues as well- and I did see a great crib with an attached changing area- but the area was kind of small and probably wouldn't work once the baby was older/bigger than a few months old.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
Well very helpful not so much necessary.
What I did was purchased a cabinet/dresser and just put a changing pad on top of it. Once done with pad, removed and now its her pretty dresser.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
I'm in the same situation with furniture we already have, the pieces we have are not the right size. I do want a changing table but instead of buying a separate piece of expensive furniture I registered for this one by Graco.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
this may sound crazy but my sister used the changing table pad...on her dining room table. She wanted a place to change the kids on the 1st floor...hated doing it on a couch or floor so she just got an extra pad (the big one that goes on top of a dresser to make it a changing table) and kept it at one end of her dining table. She had a basket with wipes and diapers, creams, etc in it. Then if company or anyone was coming over...she just moved the stuff. Seemed to work great for her. And in her kids rooms she just had the same pad on top of their dressers.
HTH.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
We opted not to get one... we'll be using the one that came with the PNP for the first few months... then I'm sure we'll be changing where ever the little guy needs a changing... the floor or couch or where ever.. lol.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
I dont know how big the nursery is going to be but if its small, the first thing I am getting rid of is the changing table. I will just use a cover on the bed.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
We are very limited on space as we are in a 1 bedroom co-op.
We will have room to put a crib in our bedroom without having to get rid of or move any of our exisiting furniture.
So we will just use my long dresser as a changing table.
We could put it on wall where my jewelry armoire is & I could place that in my closet but I think I would rather have a rocker before a changing table.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
We have a changing pad on DS' long dresser. Downstairs we used the PNP while he was smaller. We use it multiple times a day stillat 14 months.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
although I dont think its a must have, we got one that converts to a night stand (the changing part comes off the top!) so DS can use it as part of his big boy furniture one day!

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
thanks ladies! I think I am going to forgo buying the changing table for now. I just think it would be silly since I already have the dresser which is 31" long and we also have 2 door cabinet that is about the same size. (both are in good condition and would look great in the nursery) I am pretty sure either of those can be used as makeshift changers for now. They will just be a little smaller than the typical changer. I DID find a changing pad that is 30" from amazon and target. So we will prob just get that. I can't wait to get started on the nursery already!!

I use a regular dresser that is about 7 inches longer than the changing pad.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
Not getting one.
Any child we've been around has never been changed on a changing table..always bed, floor, table, pretty much anywhere there was enough surface area to do it

I use a dresser but if yours isnt big enough for a changing pad, I'd get a changing table.

Re: changing table? Is it really necessary?
For me it was, because we bought one with drawers so we have extra storage, and I like having him up high, it's easier on my back.
We got a combo for DD, it's a long low(er) dresser and we'll buy a changing pad for the top.

That's what we did. DH hated all changing tables. Don't know why.
