Carseat placement ?
Currently I have DS in the infant seat in the middle of my CRV... I'm thinking about switching to the one side because its too much for me to lift DS in seat to the middle... it's back breaking!
Just wondering, I hear most people say they have infant seat behind passenger... is there a reason that is better than behind driver? Is it just so the driver can put their seat back enough??
I'm really short so there is always the most room behind the driver seat...
Is there a safety reason why the passenger side is best??
TIA

They do say it's safer behind the passenger seat.

Re: Carseat placement ?
I am surprised you have your carseat in the middle. I used to have a CR-V and the middle seat is not the best place in that car. The best location in the CR-V is the passenger. The middle seat is not very flat making that position not the sturdiest for the carseat.
The reason for the passenger vs. the driver is that when you park in the street, it the safest way to open the door to get your child out with oncoming traffic. You are on the sidewalk vs oncoming traffic.

Re: Carseat placement ?
Maybe it depends on the model... my vehicle has latch in all 3 seats... and the manual didn't recommend any position over another.
I usually NEVER have to park on the street... so I guess it doesnt matter then?

Statistically, the rear passenger door is hit the least often in accidents.
Also, almost everyone has to park on the street at some point. Flat tire, visiting a friend, yard sales, etc.

Re: Carseat placement ?
CRVs recommend that you don't place the carseat in the middle and that you place it behind the passenger seat. I have two and that is the installation person has said (and it is in the our manual.)

This.
Also, LATCH should not be the deciding factor on seat placement. Seat belt installs are just as safe. Things that may prevent middle seat installs are humps, drop down armrests etc. You need to check your manual of your vehicle to see if car seat placement is acceptable in the middle position.
For RF you also need to read your manuals (car and carseat) about whether or not the carseat is allowed to touch the back of a front seat. Some front seats with advanced airbags should not have a car seat touching or "braced" against it. In this case, it may be better to have it behind the passenger seat since it can be moved forward more than a driver's seat.
There's lots of variables. If you need to, give carseatsafety (Chris) a call 516-571-9664 and schedule an appointment for a seat check.
