Caribbean Vacation with DC

If you have ever been to the Caribbean with DC where did you go? What hotel did you stay in? How old was your DC?

Re: Caribbean Vacation with DC

We went to St. Thomas with DD when she was 11 mos old...We stayed at the Ritz. I would not recommend it, it was a great vacation, but the island itself is very hilly and the hotel is on a hilltop so no elevators so to get the stroller from the room to the beach/pool was a PITA...Aruba and the Bahamas (Atlantis) are really kid friendly as well as Turks and Caicos(Beaches hotel). We're going on a cruise with DD in a few weeks leaving out of NY she'll be 18 mos..wish us luckChat Icon

Re: Caribbean Vacation with DC

Thanks! I was thinking about Bahamas, Aruba and Mexico. I don't know anyone who has been to any of those places (or other islands) with children, so I'm having a hard time figuring out the best place to go.

Have a great time on the cruise. We went on one out of NY in Dec. My DD's were 2 1/2 and 13 months old. It was rough the first 2 days and the last 2 days. There wasn't much to do with the kids and because it was winter it was to cold to use the pool (the first 2 days and last 2) But the 4 days we were in Florida and Bahamas were GREAT!! We tried to go again in August but because DD #1 is 3 yrs old now she has to pay the full 3rd passenger rate ($1200) it just seemed crazy to spend that much when she's still so young and won't get anything for that amount of money.

DD will be 18 mos and we still had to pay for her regular price!!! It was nuts, but it's MIL's 60th birthday so we bit the bullet...thankfully we're leaving in June so hopefully it won't be cold the days we're sailing up here...

I know a few ppl that went to the bahamas at the Atlantis and looooved it with kids..plus I think they're running a really good promotion right now!!!

Re: Caribbean Vacation with DC

We have a trip planned to Beaches in Turks & Caicos. I did a ton of research on Caribbean trips with kids and I think we made the right choice. We can't wait!!!!!!! We plan to have breakfast with the Sesame St. characters! I think that the Atlantis would have also been a great choice and I am going to keep it in mind for a future trip.

Re: Caribbean Vacation with DC

We have been to Aruba and twice with kid(s).

First time it was with out 9 mo old DD

and second was with a 2.5 yr old DD and 11 month old DS.

WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! We plan on going back every year (my parents have a time share)

We stayed at the marriott surf club! It was extremely kid friendly! There is a lazy river pool, huge reg pool with a slide and lots of other activities! There are chain restaurants (TGI fridays, etc) and delicious local restaurants all walking distance! WAY too many to count! SO we don't even rent a car! we walk along the strip that connects all the high rise hotels and restaurants! YOu couldn't poss eat in all the restaurants in one stay! Even the "fancier" restaurants are casual if you want and welcome kids! The people are friendly! The huts on the beach are very large to cover the kids while they napped, ate, and played!

I would def rec...esp since I am going back and plan on it for a long time!

Re: Caribbean Vacation with DC

My best friend just got back from Beaches Turks & Caicos this week. They went last year too - they absolutely love it. There are so many activities for kids - camp, babysitters - nice mix of family time and adult time. Her kids are 5.5 and 2.5

We love the Gran Caribe Real in Cancun -- it is very kid friendly - they have a pirate ship pool, water slides and a kid club with kiddie pool. The beach is awesome and there's entertainment for kids and adults. They are all-inclusive and the food is great.

We went to Atlantis in November and I loved it as did my kids. We stayed at the Coral towers and while it might look far from the toddler pool area it really wasn't more than a 5 minute walk. The toddler pool is closest to the Royal towers but there a better deal on these towers (I think because they were doing construction on the pools for the coral towers and they were updating the rooms). We were there for 8 days and by day 7 I think they had enough so 5 days I think would be perfect.

Re: Caribbean Vacation with DC

We went to the Dominican Republic with DS when he was 10m old. It was a great family vacation! The plane ride was short. DS wasn't mobile yet so he was happy to be pushed around in a stroller and ride his little swim float in the pool. You'll have a wonderful time!

We stayed at Majestic Elegance per the recommendation of a travel agent. The pools and beach were nice but the food was awful. I was not impressed at all. Next time, I want to stick with the major family resorts like Beaches, Club Med or Atlantis. Our agent actually recommended Majestic Elegance over Club Med. Chat Icon
