can't live without it/favorite items....
My best friend is having a baby and her shower is coming up soon!
I'd like to make a basket with some fun items that us BTDT mommies couldn't live without or were family favorites.
She's having a boy 
I know I wanted to include blue Soothies and Sophie... but I'm blanking on other must-have items that might be things she didn't register for or even think of...
Can anyone help?

zipper pj's (I didn't get any and a friend recommended. best thing)
the battery operated boogy sucker (although may not want that as a shower gift)
newborn clothes. for some reason I got a ton of 3 or 6 month sizes
aveeno lotions
butt paste
lots of bibs and burp clothes
ETA... a lot of the bigger stuff I loved after like the bundle me, bjorn, and stuff like that. They're pricey though
Oh, I was short on onsies and use them all the time.

I agree with bibs - I really like the Koala Baby terry cloth ones - so does DS, he loves the terry material.
ETA - You were looking for fun - so I deleted the onesies.
I really love Trumpette Socks - those and the ones from MudPie are the only ones that stay on DS (and they are cute - I get so many complements on them).

- Baby music (we got a CD of spanish lullabies for DD and she still loves it to this day!)
- Miracle blanket
- Aden & Anais cotton/muslin blankets (better than receiving blankets IMO)
- BBB cloth diapers to use to clean everything!
- High contrast books - DD favorites as a NB were a B&W animal book and anything dr. seuss
- footed pjs - DD lived in them as a NB
- aveeno products
- absorbent bath towel
- lots of hats
- general safety items (nail clipper, aspirator, nail file, etc.) You can buy a kit at any baby store
That is what I can think of now that are small and can fit in a basket.

This bath sling - DS is 8 months and still on it, although he's way too big! But it's made bathing him so easy, he's still happy on it and I don't wnat to give it up!
Carter's Bubble cuff socks - the only ones that stay on
Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Soothe & Glow Seahorse - I even used it to fall asleep once!

- buy buy baby cloth diapers (i use them for burp cloths)
- Sound machine homedics sound spa lullaby I got mine at bed bath and beyond with a 20% off coupon and I use it every night

I would do the wabanubs(?) I think that's what they're called They are the stuffed animals with the soothies or soothie like paci's attached. pricey but I WISH I had bought them. My friend has them and swears by them. Her lo could always paw it back into his mouth. Hmmmmm fun things I can't think of many really since I wanted the bare mins for my shower. Now that DD is older she loves her play thing that attaches to her carseat. SHe loves Scout the leapfrog dog...I admit I love it too! I LOVE our twilight turtle, her jewel lullaby cd from Target, an d I always light a lavender candle an hour before bed and blow it out before I leave the room. i swear between the turtle, jewel, an d the candle DD sleeps like a freakin rock

I hated zipper pjs Only b/c when I had to change in the middle night, it was like I had to strip him down.
But hmmmm in the last few months I couldn't live without:
*miracle blanket/swaddle
*mylicon drops
*CDs with songs b/c I didn't know ANY!
*I also love our books! any book!'
* BIBS!

cloth diapers ..they are great burp cloths.
bibs, bibs and more bibs..LOL
wipes..lots of them.
feetie pjs with zippers. i find the snap ones to be a pain in my a$$
plain white onesies for bed. i like the snap bottms rather than the side snaps.

A few things off the top of my head and 'seconding' some mentioned above...
DS loves the glow seahorse by Fisher Price.
The Homedics sound spa with light show projection from Bed Bath and Beyond.
A nice journal is nice.
First year calander (I did not get and still wish I did. I have a baby book but that would have been nice too).
I love love love the mommy hook. Yes it's just a giant carabeaner with some foam padding but I have two and use them both. I hook them on the stroller and shopping cart handle to hold my purse and recycle bags as well as overload of groceries. Love it!
And a friend sent DS Jazzy Toes socks and they were my favorites!
 
Oh, and our neighbor got him a pair of the Target Ministar (Robeez knockoffs) shoes in a sneaker style and they just completed every outfit. Love those too!
Another favorite...Aden+Anais swaddle blankets
So soft and gauzy and big. I used them for everything and still do. Just today, I tied it around my neck and it made a full coverage BF cover in Costco! And it kept DH covered from the rain, big enough to complete cover the whole car seat. Love them and when we have DC#2, I'm going to get their sleep sacks too! Just love the goldfish print!
A vinyl backed outdoor blanket so she can sit/play anywhere with baby and not worry about wet ground.

-small warm blanket, one that you can easily drape over the infant seat
-wash cloths, we go through a million in a week
-a cd of soothing baby music
-any kind of fun little shoes
-a travel wipes case

I love the swaddle me blankets, halo sleep sacks, footed pj's (DD lived in these for months) and my terry cloth bibs.
