Can they give you anything for anxiety during a c-section?
I'm afraid of having a panic attack (or passing out from being on my back. How long are you on your back for before they start operating?)
In fact I've already been struggling with these issues 3 weeks in advance!
My dr's office is closed til Wed so figured I'd ask here in the meantime.

You will be drugged up so you will probably be fine. My c section took about 30-45 minutes from putting me on the table to sending me to recovery. Everyone is different and also depends on your dr.

you'll have an epidural so won't feel anything and you're on such a high of wanting to finally meet your baby that you really don't think of it when you're in the moment. But if you're feeling anxiety, def let the dr. know and maybe then can give you a small dose of something to help.

I had an anxiety attack during c section from everything happening so fast and being flat on my back. The anestesiologist gave me versed. Worked great

Re: Can they give you anything for anxiety during a c-section?
so with my first dd i had an emergency c i went through 16 hours of labor before i was told i had to have a c and i was deathly afraid of the whole concept ...i lost it...it didnt make it better that im not a fan of being flat on a table, i sleep with two high pillows every night because of this so when they put me on the table i was freakin out about that in my mind and i was definitely no doubt having a panic attack but i made it through....fast forward to my 2nd dd scheduled c.....i made sure (and you should do the same) to tell my doctor exactly what upset me the first time....i told him i didnt want the curtain too close to my face and i wanted my head to be elevated more because i dont like to be flat and he said those things could totally be adjusted and i just made sure to reiterate them during the preparation and everything was done the way i was comfortable....because of that no panic attacks at all

Re: Can they give you anything for anxiety during a c-section?
Honestly, I was totally fine throughout the whole surgery and even when I was wheeled into recovery however, if you're super freaked out I would think there is something they could maybe you give you.
It's not as bad as you think though, I was brought in and given a spinal and that started working right away so I was laid down. Probably within 20 minutes or so of that they started with the C-section. The baby comes out SO fast, within 5 minutes of starting my DD was born. Then it's probably another half hour at least to stitch you back up. All and all everything went faster than I had expected.
I was totally aware of what was going on throughout the whole C-section.....I was chatting with DH, and listening to the doctors. I wasn't drugged up at all so I wasn't out of it, I just had the spinal so I didn't feel ANY pain, just a lot of tugging and pulling. Weird sensation.
Not sure how it is at every hospital but at St. Charles once you're in recovery they give you STRONG meds for the pain. They had me on morphine and the nurse kept saying to "take advantage" of the "good" drugs now so I don't feel any pain because once I was in the maternity ward the drugs aren't as strong. I had NEVER taken pain meds in my life and she ended up giving me the MAXIMUM allowed amount of morphine (at HER suggestion, NOT my request)..............OMG!!!!!!! Yea, I didn't feel any pain the first day but I have NEVER been so sick in my life!! I had my DD at 5:42am and I wasn't able to sit up without wanting to pass out or barf before 6pm that night. It was awful, I didn't see her all day and I felt like HE-L-L!!
I am not telling you that to scare you, just to be aware how strong the post-surgery meds can be and if you're not use to taking any kind of meds (like me) don't let them give you too much. In hindsight, I would've much preferred the pain then how I felt after being given so much morphine. That nurse should've known better then to drug me up like that.
But aside from that, the C-section was fairly quick and not at all as bad as I thought it would be. The anticipation of it all was far scarier then the actual procedure. You will be okay!!

Just an FYI if they feel the need to give you anxiety meds during your c-section it will be after the baby is born unless your anxiety is so severe that it can interfere with the surgery.

Re: Can they give you anything for anxiety during a c-section?
Talk with anesthesiology before the c-section to discuss your fears. (Even now, not right beofre you go in.) My first c-section sucked, so I voiced my concern to just be knocked out for this one. (DH was on board for this as he wouldn't be in the room when she was born.) My team was very supportive in my fears as we sat in the hospital one day for over half an hour discussing everything. It all went well and I am sure it will for you. But you need to speak up!
