I wouldn't, but only because it seems others will notice and possible judge you. And if by some chance the bride is wearing white it will be even worse.
Personally, I don't see anything wrong with wearing white, but since other people obviously do, and you don't really know the bride, it's probably easier just to pick something else.

Can I wear a white sundress to an engagement party?
As a guest to a wedding related event, I would never want to do anything that might upset the bride. Some brides might care and some might not. There are a ton of other colors to chose from so I don't wear white to any wedding events. It isn't hard to wear something else.
I personally wouldn't have cared and had someone wear white at my own wedding and didn't notice until I saw pictures. Just because I don't care doesn't mean someone else doesn't.

Personally, it wouldn't bother me.
I'm wearing a white dress to my shower more than likely. I just want to. Its a pretty dress, it's Summer. Why not?
Also, the first time I got married my shower was a complete surprise and I was in jeans, uggs and a sweater the whole time. LOL. It didn't occur to anyone (including me) to have a dress at the shower for me to change in to. LOL.
It's not a surprise this time so I'm doing it up!

This is so ridiculous to me !! WHEN did this happen? Admitedly this bothers me more than normal......but this REALLY annoys me for some reason.
The bride wears a white WEDDING GOWN on here Wedding Day - that's tradition - so yes, I think it's in poor taste to wear a white gown to a wedding ......
but now white is off limits for any wedding related event? It's an engagement party in the summer, LOTS of women wear white in the summer ........
I totaly and completely disagree - but I also wear red to weddings as well and many people think THAT's awful for some reason.
I don't get this whole idea of showing up the bride - HOW is it even possible to show up the bride at her own party?
To me, there is a difference between wearing a dress that is white with a pattern or something, but an eyelet white dress is something I know MANY brides would wear to a bridal shower, at least where I am. My sister in fact is so TO ME you never wear solid white at all to any wedding related things unless asked by the bride. With so many options why wear white? So many people, especially wedding related events, associate the color with the bride. I would just find it rude, but that is just me.

So after seeing the responses and reading a million posts on line I've decided not to cause any drama and not wear the white dress, especially since I don't know the bride.
I do agree that it shouldn't be taboo and I'll be really aggravated if someone else is wearing white and it's not the bride!!
