Can I wear a white sundress to an engagement party?
It's a plain white eyelet sundress....
Party is at KPacho in Lake Success...think it's just a cocktail party.
I have never met the bride so it's not like I can ask what she's wearing and gauge it from there.

my rule for wearing white is not @ the Wedding - everything else is fair game.
No one is going to mistake you for the bride.

Since you don't know the bride, I wouldn't. I'm not saying it would be "right" for the bride-t- be to be upset about you wearing white, but I wouldn't take the chance that she might be (or even that others might think it was kind of tacky).

This is so ridiculous to me !! WHEN did this happen? Admitedly this bothers me more than normal......but this REALLY annoys me for some reason.
The bride wears a white WEDDING GOWN on here Wedding Day - that's tradition - so yes, I think it's in poor taste to wear a white gown to a wedding ......
but now white is off limits for any wedding related event? It's an engagement party in the summer, LOTS of women wear white in the summer ........
I totaly and completely disagree - but I also wear red to weddings as well and many people think THAT's awful for some reason.
I don't get this whole idea of showing up the bride - HOW is it even possible to show up the bride at her own party?

Why do women hate all brides so much? They are not all psycho b!tches. In fact, it was the GUESTS at my shower who judged my sister for also wearing a white dress. I did not care. We both wore black and white dresses and matched and it was cute! But a cousin pulled me aside and asked me if I "okayed" the dress.
But yeah, it is a trend, who cares? I doubt anyone has ever been crucified over wearing white to an e-party.

I don't think women 'hate all brides' - I don't see how/why you'd think my post implied that ........I just don't personally think as a grown woman, I hve to ask permission to wear something to a wedding related event - Everyone knows not to wear white to a Wedding.......but the whole wear white to any event is this new thing - If a Bride chooses to do that, great, if not, great - but I think this expectation that white is off limits for any wedding related event is ridiculous, and not a 'common knowledge' thing......HOW are you 'taking away' from the honoree of a party by wearing the same color?
I could see if it was a shower/engagement party in the middle of november, when no one really wears white ......but for a summer event, where MANY people wear white - I just don't think it's an off limits thing.
And I say it's a "Trend" b/c it is - It's NOT something that 'everyone' knows as a general rule the way they know not to wear it to the wedding -

It's just easier to wear something else. I don't see the big deal. I would personally stay away from white for all things wedding related. Why? Because there are a million other things I could wear to worry if I am going to offend everyone. And if a bride wants to wear white to her shower, rehearsal dinner or engagement party...let her, and get over it!

well that's just women being catty & jealous and competitive w/ each other by nature ......  Even those of us who are considerably less so than others, still have out moments.
Some peole are the type (brides and guests alike) to just look at and nit pick and be annoyed or upset or offended by ANY little thing ........things others would find completely insignificant -
I think wearing white to a bridal shower is perfectly acceptable - others think it's a terrible thing to do
I think wearing red, or blue, or green to a wedding is fine - it's a celebration, not a funeral - others say you shouldn't wear anything too bold or 'attention grabbing' b/c it 'looks like you're trying to upstage the bride' .......which again, I find ridiculous WHO can upstage the bride? and who would want to?
Personally, I'd prefer my guests to come to an event dressed to kill, vs. showlng up looking like they couldn't care less - THAT I would find offensive - but again, everyone is different.

And I 100% agree with you, and it wouldn't (didn't!) bother me. But the fact that is does bother a lot of people, would make me not wear white to these types of events- ever. Period. But like you said, we can agree to disagree.

I just wouldn't wear it because "I" associate white with the bride for all wedding celebrations. There are so many other colors to wear I just stay away from white for their shower.
