Camp Bus Issues...
My friend's kids have been going to the same camp for the last 3 years. They get the bus to and from.. My friend has to be at work at 8am. The bus picks the kids up between 715-730am... It is something that is talked about every year as Mom can't be late to work... All of a sudden they changed her pick up to 8am! She had to bring the kids to work with her today.... The youngest one is 10 with severe ADHD and needs an adult to get him on the bus... She waits for the bus and then goes to work... I told her that she needs to talk to the camp and tell them this isn't going to work. They gave her time slot to some new kids.. Can she do anything about it? For the rest of the week, she is going to drive the kids to camp herself. But that isn't going to work forever..

Re: Camp Bus Issues...
Yes, she should go into the camp and advocate for them to do the pick up as intended.
But fully be prepared to have some kind of back up plan too.
While I'm not using bus transport for DS, I'm sure I read some kind of disclaimer about changing times and such.
Another idea is to see if they have early drop off.
DS has this as well as late pick up at his camp.
Of course you have to pay for it though.
Lastly, if she has the time, maybe she can use it to go in late in the summer or see if she can start later/leave later.
A lot of us at work are in this bind.
In fact I'm off this week to save $$ on camp, as is one of my co-workers.

Re: Camp Bus Issues...
I have the same issue. But this is only our 2nd year and my DDs are now old enough and capable of staying inside until the bus counselor comes to the door. They also get home a few minutes before I do and are walked to the door by the counselor.
Last year at my request they were the 1st ones on and the last off the bus but they sat in the bus for a long time each way.
I would certainly call if I was your friend but like PP said be prepared if they are not required to get there early.

Re: Camp Bus Issues...
Another thought:
Maybe have someone come over to wait with them and put them on the bus? College student home for summer wanting to make a couple bucks?
Retired grandma?

Re: Camp Bus Issues...
This morning she left her house at 640am to drop them off for 730. She needs to be at work at 8. Her job does not allow her to be late... She has no extra time as she needs to save it for when they are in school and get sick. She is a single parent...
She is suppose to talk to them today... She is going to see if a neighbor can put them on the bus if they won't change the time.... Coming home isn't really a problem. The earliest they would get home is 445 and she will be home at that point..

Re: Camp Bus Issues...
Unfortunately I'm sure she's not the only parent, single or otherwise, that relies on camp for childcare.
I still feel that if she's an otherwise reliable employee, she should have a convo with her employer to work around flexibility. The summer is only a couple months anyway.
Within every problem lies a solution.

She needs to talk to her employer. Unfortunately this is a common problem. My neighbors leave for work for 830-9 am !

Re: Camp Bus Issues...
Did she discuss and confirm her bus pick up time before enrolling the kids? If so, I'd have a serious discussion with the director and let her know that she understands things change, the bus route may be different etc, but her children's enrollemnt in that particular camp was conditional upon multiple factors, the bus timing issue being one of them.
It's one thing to have to make accomodations for something you know about in advance ......it's entirely different to make THAT drastic a difference in pick up times without notifying a parent, or notifying them a week before start.
My parents help me out in the morning to get them on the bus (almost 2 hours after I leave for work) and I pick them up after paying for extended hours because I don't have anyone available daily at 4:30 ..... But all of that was arranged prior to their enrollment this summer, so I had time to plan.
If the transportation is part of the tuition, worst case scenario I'd ask for a refund since she'll have to be driving them every morning in order to get to work on time.

This was discussed prior to her enrolling them. It was one of the major factors she went with this place. She tells them every year that the pick up needs to be before 730am. They agreed to it this year and then stopped this week... No warning except a phone call Monday morning....She left a message with the director today... She works 8-4 M-F. There is no being late... She has to clock in at 8... She is looking for someone to get them on the bus in the morning... It may only be for the summer, but she relied on the bus to be there at a certain time... Now she is leaving her house at 640am. The kids are getting up at 530... Her youngest is special needs and on meds that now need to be adjusted to this new time schedule... It isn't fair what they did to her...

Re: Camp Bus Issues...
I do not know what camp this is but this is ridiculous.... She needs to speak to the director... My camp would never do this last minute, especially since this is their 3rd year at the camp...
I would think they would bend over backwards to keep parents happy so they don't give negative reviews towards their camp...
Does the camp have early care where they can drop off to the camp? Then they might give her a discount for not using the bus one way...
Hope everything works out..

Camp Bus Issues...
I used to work in a camp office an unfortunately I am of an opposite view here. The camp buses make the routes based in locations; not convenience to parents. We had many complaints from parents, and in some cases we were able to accommodate by changing the bus routes, but In many cases it was just the logical route and the parents either had to deal with it or find alternate transportation. I would suggest taking to the camp and seeing if there was another but available, but I would also have a back up plan - maybe ask neighbor/babysitter to help with the morning routine

This is what I am guessing the issue is.
I also think camps in general will say anything to get you in, and they know that parents are often trapped for childcare.
DS hasn't even started camp yet and I'm not pleased with the whole operation just from what I witnessed at orientation alone.
They also nickel and dime for everything.

That's all logical, but then you don't promise a pickup time to a parent prior to registration. I was told on the first day of school that I couldn't drop my son at before care and they had no idea when I would be allowed to because he needed an aide. They had no problem cashing my check in May and not returning calls over the summer, though. This is a huge hardship for a working parent and to have it sprung on you at the last minute is incredibly stressful.

Camp Bus Issues...
some camps have a pick up where they pick up many kids at one time, if they have such a location perhaps she can drop them off at that location.
