Re: calling everyone who's renovated their kitchens
We spent about 10k for everything minus the fridge and stove which we had already. That also included the lights and the window. We also did the work ourselves and the kitchen cabinets were from Ikea. Here is a picture and the kitchen is around 12x11. We have since finshed the tile work and added a chimney hood but for some reason I cant find the picture. Image Attachment(s):

Re: calling everyone who's renovated their kitchens
We also spent about $10,000...but that DID NOT include the cabinets...those we received as a gift from DH's uncle who used to own a store in Bklyn...so, if we had to buy them it would have cost way more...

wow, your kitchen looks great! And it's almost the exact same layout as mine. Is there a wall on the side opposite the window or is it open? I am thinking about opening ours up......
I have to check out Ikea...

Re: calling everyone who's renovated their kitchens
I've renovated two kitchens in the last two years. The pic attached is our first kitchen and it cost about $7000. We bought the cabinets from Ikea for about $2,500.00. Butcher block counters from Ikea for $300. Hired an electrician for lighting for about $2,000.00. Floors we tiled ourselves and cost about $600. Backsplash we tiled ourselves and cost about $300. Brand new appliances from the Sears Outlet cost about $2000.
We just remodeled the kitchen from our new house and it cost about $12k. Again, Ikea cabinets and countertops - about $5,000.00 because it's a bigger kitchen. Tiled ourselves, which cost about $1000.00. New appliances for $2000.00 and the electrician cost $2500. Image Attachment(s):

How are the Ikea Cabinets build quaility? I really like the dark colored cabinets above - really nice. I would love to replace our cabinets and the formica countertop we put in last year. Formica scratches way to easy....

We live in PA, and the electrician costs included some other things that were unrelated to the kitchen, so I can't estimate how much it cost just for the recess lighting.

Re: calling everyone who's renovated their kitchens
Ok, I should add, that for the most recent renovation, the $2500 for an electrician included rewiring our box downstairs because the house had about 4 separate boxes so the electrician consolidated them into one, it also included upgrading all of the outlets and switches throughougt the house, and recess lighting in the kitchen and the living room

Take a look at consumer reports - they are rated VERY high for quality, higher than many of the home depot, lowes and higher end brands. Never had a problem with ours...

Re: calling everyone who's renovated their kitchens
My kitchen was a very extensive renovation.
We gutted it down to the studs, reinsulated, vaulted the ceiling, all new electrical wiring, installed sliding glass doors, took down a wall, reconfigured two broom closets into a custom pantry and had extensive plumbing work done.
We went with solid wood cabinetry. I have a lot of cabinets and a tall built in pantry. I also went higher end on some of the appliances and did granite counters.
My FIL is a kitchen designer and retail price for my kitchen would have been about $40K. I got a lot of things at cost, his services were also free so I paid no where near that. That price includes outside labor. Image Attachment(s):

Re: calling everyone who's renovated their kitchens
WE also did two kitchens in 11 months and here are pics of our previous kitchen.
The "new appliances" were a donation from my SIL as she was redoing her kitchen in MA a few months before. The Richmaid cabinets were a wedding present from my IL's.
We paid $7K for labor, the counter top, tile and other materials.
A before pic and two afters (before we painted. It was a small kitchen but my FIL more than tripled the cabinets space in the redesign. Image Attachment(s):

Re: calling everyone who's renovated their kitchens
Thank you I Loooooove my house. I told DH I am NEVER moving. They will have to carry out my body or bury me in my backyard.
I can't believe it is my house. All of that scrimping and saving and living like a pauper in my 20's really paid off.
It also really helps having a FIL in the kitchen design business. I love him and so do his customers.

I have no complaints about our Ikea cabinets. I love them and they are easy to clean and really easy to put together. We plan on using the cabinets again when we move.

Re: calling everyone who's renovated their kitchens
Everyone's kitchens are so beautiful!!!!
DH is VERY handy and is currently doing our bathroom, hoping for the kitchen to be next, makes me feel good that it can be done without spending 20K, especially since we will probably sell as soon as it's done!!!!

Re: calling everyone who's renovated their kitchens
I don't have the exact figure, but it was about $10K ( little les I think) We COMPLETELY GUTTED the entire kitchen, removed a wall & put an island there, removed all sheetrock, new insulation, new recessed lighting, under the cabinet lights, new window, tile floors and backsplash, granite countertop, new cabinets, new appliances, moved the sink, EVERYTHING! We did most of the work oursleves and with the help of cheap labor (family & friends in the business).
Before: walls surrounding kitchen
after, worth every penney... i love my kitchen now!
