Burping and Nighttime Question- DS Almost 4 months old

How often should I be stopping my DS to burp during a feed? I'm always worried to disturb him while eating, especially in his middle of the night feedings b/c I don't want him to get "too awake" if that makes sense. What do you girls do?

Another question, kind of different topic... If your DS at around 4 months whimpers do you jump up to get him? Or wait a while to see if he settles himself back down? I know he's not old enough to CIO, which I DO DO after 6 months, so does that mean I should jump up at every whimper/cry in the middle of the night?

My DS is almost 4 months. I don't stop in the middle of a night time feeding to burp him. When I did he would scream, not burp and then would be completely awake.

As for your other question. If DS whimpers I let him be for a little bit. Sometimes he goes right back to sleep other times he continues to cry and I go in to give him his pacifier.

We don't do night time feedings, but for regular ones we really don't stop to burp in the middle anymore. When we do he usually cries and gets to wound up to burp. So now we wait until it's done (all of about 5 minutes for 6 oz), stick a paci in his mouth and burp him.

I also let him fuss and whimper a little in the middle of the night. His room is next to ours and he sleeps with his door shut, ours is open. I turn the volume on the monitor way down, but still up like 1 or 2 notches. Enough so that if he fusses I barely wake, but if he cries I am up. If I need to go in there I do, pop in the paci, and back to sleep he goes!

Re: Burping and Nighttime Question- DS Almost 4 months old

When i do nighttime feedings, I only burp DD when she's done. She usually falls asleep on my shoulder and doesn't burp (I bf her and that's normal) but I always give it a 3 or 4 minute try, just in case.

Also, yes, I definitely let her whimper in her crib. I don't let her cry for more than 3 minutes. But little whimpers? She does those in her sleep and if I jumped up at every one, neither of us would sleep. Sometimes she'll be at it for an hour - whimper, sleep, whimper, grunt, sleep... etc... - before she wakes up and cries to be fed. I just let her do it. I figure I'm teaching her that I'm not going to jump up and pick her up at every sound she makes. And it really works - in the morning she'll wake up and amuse herself in the crib now (cooing, playing with her hands, trying to roll over) for half an hour before she cries for me.
