BUMP for Alli06- Can I get some hugs/prayers etc- Pregesterone related
I am just a little nervous. I am really early - like 4.5 weeks pregnant. I just found out that my pregesterone level is only 5!! My Dr (Dr Piliterri) said it needs to be 15 or above. Anything under that can cause a miscarriage.
I just took my 1st pregesterone pill. Although I am nervous about the side effects, I know I need to take it.
UPDATE - SO I saw my Dr last night and he was really concerned about my progesterone levels. He said 5 is just a really, really low # and usually it means that its not a viable pregnancy. Being on the progesterone will sustain a non viable pregnancy, so basically, I wouldnt miscarry on my own. So, it was too early to see a heartbeat but he said it was a good sign that he saw the yolk sack. (what the heck is that anyway?)
On top of that - I have been having some problems with my legs and he is worried that I am having some clotting bc the progesterone thickens your blood. Normally, patients would take a baby aspirin, but I can't because of a blood disorder that I have. If I have clots, I would have to come off the progesterone and he isn't sure the pregnancy would last because of how low my #s are/were.
I am going this morning to check for the clots. I will also get my bloodwork results after 12 and hopefully my progesterone #s are a lot better.
So, thats basically where I am at. Just taking it day by day and hopefully in 2 weeks we will see a heartbeat.
UPDATED AGAIN - so in 8 days my progesterone went from 5 to a 7.4, which is still considered dangerously low. Its just a waiting game at this point. It was too early to see a hb , since I am only 5w4d but my Dr said it was a good sign that we saw the yolk sac.
Ugh, I really hate waiting. I go back in 2 weeks and I am going to be a nervous wreck. I NEED to see a heartbeat. 
NEWEST UPDATE - 4/27
I just wanted to update everyone. Thank you for all your kind words/prayers/hugs.
I am 9w2d and had my sono today with the peri-natologist (Dr El Kady) Everthing looks GREAT!!!  I am so happy. My progesterone is still low, but i still seem to be okay. I am on pelvic rest because of a low placenta that is causing me to spot.
I am just so excited that in 3 weeks I will be out of my 1st trimester.

low progesterone is very common and treatable. im surprised they went with pills over suppositories, but its not uncommon.

I am glad it's the pill because I also have a yeast infection so I am taking the suppositories for that right now.

I took Prometrium and questioned him on the suppositories. He said the pills are just as effective and retested my levels 2 days later. They shot up from 12.3-24! I ended up having no side effects other than bloating. Feel well!

I also took (pills) Prometrium the first 3 months of my last PG. My levels weren't really low, but we wanted to be on the safe side just in case. I had NO problems at all from them! I was just given pills, I wouldn't of wanted to do suppositories anyway so I was VERY happy.

Hang in there Denise. I remember how nervous I was the begining of this pregnancy. I was a lot more nervous this time around than the first for some reason. You are still very early & your body is ajusting to the changes going on. Here are some hugs and some prayers

My progesterone was only like a 7 at 6 weeks. By 6 weeks it went up to 12 and my OB said I didn't need to bother with the progesterone suppositories.
Hang in there. It's good they caught it early because apparently low progesterone can cause uterine contractions. Low progesterone is very treatable!

You poor thing. That infection is adding insult to injury.
I had low progesterone too and everything was fine. It's very treatable. It seems scary but your OB is aware of it and handling it so hang in there. Also, I had to do the suppositories and they were so gross. I think you are lucky that you have the pill form.

I have Dr. P, too (LOVE HIM), and am very thankful he put me on the Prometrium early on - as well as the Metanx.
Don't worry - the good thing is that you're doing something about it early!
Just to warn you... at one point (when I was about 6wks) I spotted and he said it was because of my low progesterone, so he upped my dosage.
I'm now 19 weeks, and I've been off the Prometrium since I'd say about 12 weeks. (he'll tell you when to stop it).
He also had me on baby aspirin since early on - which I thank God for since it turns out I have a blood clotting thing and the baby aspirin helps big time.

With DS my progesterone was 8 at 7 weeks and I was on suppossitories until 12 weeks. All was fine. With this pregnancy my progesterone was 9.7 at 6 weeks and again I am on the suppositories again and all is well so far. The progesterone pills will increase your number in no time at all.

I have been spotting since Tues, so maybe that is why.
I can't take the aspirin b/c I actually have a bleeding disorder, so I can't take anything that thins my blood.

I, too, had low progesterone. I was seeing and RE at the time (although miraculously got pregnant on my own). They said anything above 8 is usually fine. It seems to be very subjective. My progesterone hung around 9-10. I'm now 38 weeks
BTW, I was on suppositories until 10 weeks.
