BTDT Preemie moms: Wakefulness

When did your DC become more awake? DS was just 7 weeks old on Saturday & still sleeps constantly day & night (not complaining). I just remember with DS#1, he was very alert & awake at this point not to mention sitting in the bumbo already.

DS#2 is alert when he is awake, but we get maybe a 2 hour window around dinner time where he is awake.

My kids were almost 5 weeks early.......I would say the first 4-6weeks they slept and ate alllll the time. Then all of a sudden it was like a light switch went off and they realized they could stay awake longer stretches.

DS was 8 weeks early, spent the first 4 in the NICU where he was woken every 3 hours for a diaper change and to eat.

Once he came home, it was round the clock breastfeeding and sleeping. I think it was after he was 2 months old (somewhere between 2 and 3 months old) that he was more awake during the day.

DS was also 8 weeks early & had the same schedule in the hospital. Now he goes every 3-4.5 hours before needing a bottle

DD #1 was 7 weeks early. When she left the hospital, she was on a 4 hour feeding schedule. And we had to wake her at night to eat, if she didn't wake up on her own.

She was awake and alert more when she got to be close to her due date. She was really awake and alert when she was about 3-4 months old.

Same thing happened with DS. By the 4 hour mark if he was sleeping, I would wake him to eat (the doctors wanted to make sure he kept gaining well).

Around 3 months old, he started eating every 2-3 hours for some reason. Then after 4 months old he went back to 3-4 hours. Chat Icon

5.5 weeks early and slept ALL the time. They ate, were awake for a 1/2 hr, went back to sleep, woke up, ate you get the idea. Until probably around 8-9 weeks
