BTDT Moms who BF....
I mostly breastfeed DD but she will get a bottle of breast milk if we r out to dinner or if I'm at work.... She's 3.5 months & thus far we have been using Born Free 5oz bottles. My mom (who watches her while I'm at work) was saying today & yesterday she thinks DD is ready for more than 5oz. I have the 9oz Born Free bottles ready to go but I notice the nipples on them are "medium flow," as opposed to the 5oz bottles which had "slow flow" nipples. Will DD drinking from these new nipples on the 9oz bottles mess her up with bf'ing bc it will be an easier flow than from my boob? Should I keep using the nipples from the 5oz bottles in the new 9oz bottles? TIA

I never changed the nipples. I didn't want the bottle to be easier than the breast.

Same. I would continue to use the slow flow nipples.

Can you use the slow-flow nipples on the 9 oz bottles?

I never switched from the level one nipples. dd is almost 10 months and still uses them. I also got a lot of pressure in the beginning to increase the amount of bm per bottle but remember bm is different than formula that the composition of the bm changes to meet the baby's needs. Kellymom website has a great calculator for how much bm they need based on feedings http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/pumping/milkcalc/

I kept the slow-flow nipples on until DD was about 10m old. By that point, it was hard to get her to sit still long enough to finish her bottle, so we had to get the milk into her faster.

Thanks so much for this info. Who pressured you? Family members? Sometimes I feel like my fam thinks I'm crazy with BFing

I switched to medium flow @ 6 or 7 months bc he wasn't finishing his bottles. This helped get the milk in him.

I never even switched to 9 oz bottles-- I figured that if that was all I was getting pumping, that was probably all he was getting nursing, so I stayed with the 5 oz bottles and slow flow nipples.

Same, he was getting frustrated. Now at 10 months, he is refusing all bottles. So sitter is trying breast milk in cup.

Yes, mostly family. No one in my family ever breastfed so they just didn't get it. Dd never went over 5.5 oz in a bottle at one time. Now bc she eats very well she's back down to 4 oz. good luck
