BTDT Moms, Swelling question

If you have swelling, how long after the birth of LO did it take for the swelling to go down???

I guess I just assumed it was go right away, but the nurse at my Dr. told me yesterday that it took months after giving birth for her to lose the swelling.

TIA!

Re: BTDT Moms, Swelling question

For me, it took about 2 weeks for my swelling to completely go down. I was so happy to be able to see my ankles again! I was swollen so bad from about 26 weeks, 24/7.

Hang in there! Chat Icon

Re: BTDT Moms, Swelling question

For me about a week or 2.
I had SEVERE swelling in my feet and ankles. REALLY bad.

In the hosptial they pumped me so full of IV fluids during L&D that my ankles looked even worse that first night or 2.
Then it slowly started to go down.
I remember sitting on the toilet one day in the hospital and peeing for like 15 minutes! Chat Icon
It was like all the retained fluid was flushing out from my body.
It got better each day and by around 2 weeks I was rejoicing that I could see my ankle bones again- I hadn't seen them in MONTHS! Chat Icon
They looked so freakishly SKINNY! Chat Icon

Re: BTDT Moms, Swelling question

With my first 2 the swelling went down in a day or two.

With my 3rd, it took 3-4 weeks for the swelling to go down. I actually left the hospital weighing the same i did coming in due to the swellig and water retention.

I wasn't really swollen at te end of my first pregnancy, but with all the IVs and fluids I left the hospital swollen. It took about 3 weeks to go back to normal, and I remember one day waking up with my feet looking normal again.

Re: BTDT Moms, Swelling question

I had a TON of swelling. Withing two weeks ALL of my swelling was gone and I was down 60 lbs!!! Not even kidding one bit. The last four weeks of my pregnancy I gained a ridiculous amount of water weight and about five days after my DD was born it started flying off. I had crazy night sweats and shakes and I was dropping pounds each day.......thank god!!!

Re: BTDT Moms, Swelling question

Most of it was gone by 1 week PP. I had severe swelling throughout the 3rd trimester. By 1 week PP, I was down 31 of the 45 lbs that I had gained.

Mine went from really bad to worse after I gave birth. I was so swollen I couldn't even get a flip flop 3x larger than my regular shoe size on. I has a cs though. I also came home home weighing 14lbs more than I did going in. It took about 3 weeks and losing 40lbs for my legs and feet to look normal.

Re: BTDT Moms, Swelling question

I lost 52 pounds in about a week in a half. I had pre-eclampsia and had an emergency c-section 6weeks early. I weighed 182 pounds when I gave birth. I was so swollen and was wearing support stockings which did not help. I went to my ob one week later and was down to 130.
