BTDT Induction

Ok Moms, please tell me about your experience. I am going in Wednesday at 7:30am. Straight pitocin. I am 2 1/2-3 cm and about 50% effaced now.
How long did it take you from start to finish?
Did you go right into active labor?
Did they have to break you water?
Any side effects from Pitocin? Nausea? anything?

I started Pit with DD at around 9:30am and had her at 9:22pm. Almost 12 hours. The beginning was very easy. I'd say it started getting painful around 3-4pm. They broke my water for me, didn't feel anything. Also no side effects from the Pit.

I was induced but was given cervidil over night then pitocin the next day at 9am. When given the pitocin I was 2cm and fully effaced. The dr. broke my water when I was between 3-4cm. I didn't have the epi yet and it didn't hurt. I got the epi at 6cm after they upped the pitocin. An our later I was fully dilated and ready to push. I pushed for 1.5 hours. From start to finish I was in labor for about 8 hours. Good luck!

I was induced using pitocin only. I believe they started around 8am, broke my water (it just felt weird - I don't recall it hurting) around 9am and DS came at 9:10pm.

I got my epi around 11:30-12 - they wanted me to get it so they could increase my pitocin. I was in labor but, contractions were still pretty far apart and bearable.

I had some pain around 5pm and they redid my epi and it went away until about 7pm. The anesthesiologist came in and said there wasn't much they could do based on DS' position. From 7:30-8:50 I was pretty miserable - uncomfy and nauseous. I started pushing at 8:50 and DS was out 20 minutes later.

I was induced with Pitocin only around 8:30 am. My Dr. broke my water after that....contractions started shortly after that, by about 12:30, I got the epidural. Side effects from pitocin was nausea, I threw up a few times from it...unfortunately. I gave birth at 7:20pm, pushed for about a half hour. Not bad! Was eating a turkey sandwich by 8pm. I was starving.

Im nervous because I know I am going to get sick from not eating. It happens all the time. If I go a few hours in the morning after waking up without eating I feel horrible and get sick. Anyone "sneak" a little food before they got to the hospital just to hold them over for a bit? You can be honest. I probably will.

I was induced with pit only. Got it about 8 am, they broke my water about 9, got an epi at 12 and baby was born just before 1. All tolled, less than 5 hours from when pit was started. I was fingertip dilated and about 50% effaced if i remember correctly.

I had the best induction, you can read my birth story in my profile for all the dets.

But the summary: I was 5 days late and went in at 6am, 1cm dialted, 50% effaced. Got one dose of cervidil, then a double does 3 hours later. Started feeling contractions at 3pm, Dr. broke my water at 4pm and I was 2-3 cm. I labored hard for an hr and then got the epi at 5pm- I think I was only 3cm at that point. Felt pressure an hr later and I was 8cm at 6pm!! I was 10cm at 6:20 and pushed for 20 minutes- DS was born at 6:40pm!! So a long morning but only 3 1/2 hrs. of actual labor.

Why are they going straight to pitocin if you are already nicely dialated?

Oh and BTW- when they broke my water, it hurt soooooo bad!! Just a warning.

crashing your post...but just wanted to say these stories are making me feel a LOT better about my own induction!! i've heard too many negative stories, it's nice to hear some more positive ones. thanks for posting, TryingSoHard!

I was induced with Pitocin only. I was 3-4cm dilated and 100% effaced. I was given pitocin at 6pm. My dr also broke my water at that time. I delivered DD at 10:01pm. I had an epidural about 15 minutes after the pitocin. I didn't have any major symptoms, I was a bit nauseous, but I think that's common during labor and had the chills, but I think that is also a side effect of the epidural.

I was induced but with cyotec. I was sent in a week early due to having hardly any amniotic fluid. They attempted to break my water pretty early on but since I hardly had any they couldn't really tell.
I went in on a monday and started induction at 7:30pm and had ds on wednesday at 2:32am.
I had multiple rounds of cyotec and only dilated to 1cm because I was on magnesium for hellp syndrome. I couldn't get an epi and they gave me pitocin Tuesday probably around 8pm. I dilated to 8cm and then the baby's heart rate dropped so I had an emergency c section.

My experience sounds awful but I was sick. I had hellp syndrome which is pretty serious and because of that I had a rather long induction. I wouldn't be opposed to having another induction with another baby if I didn't have hellp syndrome.

In regards to food...the day I went in I had eaten half a sandwich before I went to the dr and they sent me to the hospital and told me not to eat. I whined a lot at the hospital and my doc agreed that I could have a sandwich while here because I guess they didn't see a c section in my future for a decent amount of time. I'm glad I ate though because I was in there for a day and a half before I had the baby

I was scheduled for an induction when I was 6 days late. Started pitocin at 8am. I was not dilated at all. The dr broke my water before the Epi maybe around 10am. I would describe water breaking as a really brutal internal. Nurses kept pushing epi on me but I didn't feel like I really needed it until the afternoon. No side effects except extreme thirst. I had to wear oxygen after a few hours and to me that was more uncomfortable than the contractions because I couldn't breathe. After 22 hours on pitocin I wAsnt ready to push so I had a c section.
