bringing your child to the nail salon poll
What age did you start bringing your dd to the nail salon? Just curious because i saw a mom and her 2 year old there today, and she was so good! she sat on her mom's lap and got her toes painted.. I've never really seen babies that young at the nail place before, though
I know some people never bring their kids because it's their time to relax, but I have fond memories of doing this with my mom, and look forward to bringing DD with me

I never bring my child not because its my time to relax but because I feel like all nail salons are unsanitary. No matter how clean they seem.

Started bringing my dd on her 2nd bday. I unfortunately created a monster and now at 6 yrs old she wants to go all the time. I usually bring her like once a month

This.
I got a fungus from those freaking pedicure tubs and lost several toenails. They keep falling off and it's never been the same since- and this is my big toe so my feet are always looking gross in the summer. I'm very self conscious now. All because of a sh!tty pedicure 5 years ago.
Podiatrist said you should never, under any circumstance, soak in those things- they clean the tubs but they can't clean those jets and that is where the fungus and bacteria are harbored.
I would never subject a child to that filth and bacteria.
As far as getting nails done- I don't even get mine done. I do it at home. It chips in 1 day anyway and is a waste of time and money so she sure as shit isn't going to be getting her nails done at a salon at 6 years old when I don't even do it myself

Dd has been a few times-she's 2.5. I only bring her when the first open during the week though so she doesn't disturb people (although she's always been good). I've also had to bring ds a few times while I was on maternity leave, and I would go at the same time.

Very similar story... except with warts. Twice (different places). Required multiple trips to a dermatologist for meds and freezing. My dermatologist said never to get a pedicure. I bought nail polish and do it at home.

All the places I go have like a plastic shower cap thing they put in the tub. When you're done they drain the water and a new one goes on for a new person.
Also when I bring my daughter (4) she just gets polish and not a full on pedi so her feet don't even go in the water.
I think maybe the laws changed bc I always see those shower cap things now!
That sucks so bad that happened to you, I've heard tea tree oil can help with fungus.

I think it depends on the kid. Some kids can sit & have their toes / nails done. I think as long as they can do that and be quiet then any age is fine. I try very hard to respect other ppl space and experience at the salon. It drives me crazy when ppl talk loudly on their phone or to one another.

My niece has been going since 2.5. She is very well behaved. My Other niece is 2 and I can't imagine bringing her to a nail salon. I think it depends on your child's temperament.

I don't find nail salons to be relaxing at all. The reason I wouldn't bring a child is because of the fumes and I wouldn't want chemicals on their nails/ skin.

I would never bring them...the fumes in there can't be good for their lungs. I don't ever need my nails painted that badly. If I can't go alone I just don't go.
I paint my 5 yr olds nails at home.

My DD is too young to get her nails done. I would never bring her because a. she would want to run all over the place and b. I don't want her breathing in all the fumes (I get my nails done at a hair salon, so it's double the chemicals).
I'll bring her when she's old enough to ask to go.

The place by me does this too with the liner in it. I hardly ever go, but I do want to bring dd this week since we are going away and thought it would be nice bonding time. She's 4 and hasn't gone yet. I was going to go to a kid friendly place but maybe I'll just go to where I know they have liners.

I brought dd once when she was 2.5 because we were going on vacation. I just had them paint her nails, nothing else.

So do these tubs that have liners- are they not jetted?
I can't stand the jets- first of all they don't feel good to me-I don't find it to feel any better than just soaking in still hot water- and that is where all the bacteria and fungus are harbored- inside those jet heads.
So how do the liners work?

I didn't vote because I have a very energetic 15 month old boy who doesn't belong anywhere near a nail salon unless we are looking to demo the place. But I do think it's a case by case basis. I remember going with my mom as a little girl, but I was always a very quiet and well behaved child. So I think it depends on the child's demeanor.

I think the first time i brought her was 3 but I didn't get my nails done at the time.
Since then (she is now 6) I probably have taken her maybe a total of 10 times and never when I get my nails done (actually I think once I did but had my mom there to help me keep an eye on her).
Me getting my nails done is my time and I like to relax plus I would be too stressed if she needed something I couldn't do it. Though now at 6 its not an issue but I still think I would go just me by myself and just take her.
I don't take her often in general cause the nail posh never really lasts more than a day or 2 if I am lucky.

I've brought DD for a manicure once as a special treat when she came with me to work when she was 5. They just filed her nails and painted them.
