Breath holding spells
So my son has been having what we assume is Breath holding spells since he was like 4 months old. It tends to happen when he is tired/moody/sick, he'll starting crying for often no apparent reason (we lay him on his changing table, put him down etc), hold his breath, turn blue around his lips and sometimes even pass out for a few seconds/go limp (othertimes he finally gasps in some air and starts wailing again). Any other moms experience this ??

Breath holding spells
My son did this from pretty much birth until 6 months. His was usually triggered in the car because he hated the carseat and would cry so hard. It was the scariest thing, but he did grow out of it.

Breath holding spells
DD never actually passed out, but the MD warned us that she might b.c she holds her breathe when she's crying too. Scary!

Breath holding spells
My nephew did this. Started at 9 months. Scariest thing ever. Did it a few more times over the years. I think the last time he did it was when he was 4 though, and he's going to be 6 this month.

Re: Breath holding spells
Dd did that when she was really mad abt something at that age. Someone gave me the advice to blow air in her face when she held her breath. It startles the baby and they breathe.

Re: Breath holding spells
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I have tried the blowing in his face thing and it does help sometimes..Usually he doesn't completely pass out but he comes pretty darn close (completely out of it and blue/grey in color) before he starts screaming/breathing again. Its so frustrating/disconcerting/scary :(
