Re: Breast Pumps
I will be renting from the hospital first. I don't want to spend close to $300 on a pump to then find out that the BF thing isn't working for me. So the plan is to rent and if all goes well, I will invest in one.

Re: Breast Pumps
I wouldnt buy until you know 1. that you can and enjoy BF and 2. decide if you want to pump.
I BF but had no intention of continuing when I went back to work so I didnt want anyone to spend alot of money on an expensive pump I wouldnt get a ton of use out of. DS bf fine but he was 10lbs at birth and I never produced enough to satisfy him. So I bought a small manual pump to see how much I was getting and for feedings that DH would do and used that on and off for a few weeks but then decided to stop BF. I am glad I only spent $35 vs $300+

Re: Breast Pumps
I am extremely fortunate that SIL bought a good one, used it w/ both kids and is giving it to me (just registered for all the accesories), but if I didn't have a hand-me-down, I think I would rent. At least until I knew whether BF worked for me or not.

Re: Breast Pumps
It all depends on many factors. I personally would not buy one until after the baby is here to know if you can BF (they are not returnable). How long do you plan on nursing? Do you want to nurse and pump? Will you be going back to work afterwards? Lots of things to consider and this will base which one to get.

I'm going to rent from the hospital first and see if it works out. If it does, I will buy my own pump.

Re: Breast Pumps
Didnt know you could rent them ! I was going to buy one but not if i can rent it instead. How much is it to rent ? does renting add up to buying one or close to it?

Re: Breast Pumps
I am going to wait until the hospital and see how that goes. If it seems to be working, I will have DH purchase one before I get home from the hospital.

Re: Breast Pumps
I bought it and used it for six months. My sil also used it for six months so I felt that I got my money's worth. I especially feel this way since I'm on baby number two.
I bought the Pump in Style Advance. It is recommended that you wait to but until after the baby is born because you can't return this item - if for any reason you decide not to BF.
Good luck.

Re: Breast Pumps
I say you buy after BFing works for you. I din't pump until after a couple of weeks anyway. Medela pump in style is great!
