Breast Feeding Questions...
Did you/will you breast feed?
Did your/will your insurance cover a pump? (mine is United Healthcare... I haven't checked with them yet. Do you know their policy?)
Are you registering for a pump?
If so, which one?
If not, what are you going to do?

I'm planning on breast feeding.
My insurance (Aetna) just sent me a letter that they cover about 30% of it.
I didn't register for it, cuz that's something I rather buy in my privacy.
And I plan on getting the Medela Dual Breast Pump.

Nope!
Are you registering for a pump? I think so. I want to find out if you can return an unused pump. I know you can't return a used pump.
I figure by the time I leave the hospital I will know whether BFing will work or not--therefore if it does not I can return unused pump.

This is my second pregnancy so my answers about the pump are a little different.
Yes I am planning to BF.
I already have the Medela Pump In Style (from DS) which I did not get through insurance. Didn't even realize it may have been an option when I bought it.
I did not register for a pump because who knows if BFing is something that will work out. When he was about 6 weeks old and a BFing champ I went out and used gift cards I had received which covered the cost of the pump. Unless you are getting it for free I highly recommend waiting to get a pump. They are super expensive and non refundable. It would be a shame to put out all that money and not be able to get it back.

I plan on breastfeeding and pumping as well.
I have United Healthcare and they unfortunately don't cover a pump. I am going to add the pump to my registry after my shower bc I don't feel comfortable with someone buying it for me. Also, I keep hearing its best to rent a hospital one before purchasing to make sure its going to work out. I figure ill do that and then if I decide to buy one it will be on my registry so I can use my completion coupon.

I bf my ds, just stopped 3 months ago. Did it for 7 months, stopped to get period reg. and start ttc. I suggest u get a pump regardless if ur going to ebf. U might take time to get your milk in and pumping will help you produce a little more. If anything, rent one. It comes in handy. Just my opinion. I probably won't bf this next baby, I just can't imagine doing it with a little one running around, the beginning is so time consuming. I got the media freestyle. Liked the timer feature on it. Small and fit in my purse.

I breast fed -- well, I tried to breast feed, no latch, so I ended up pumping and bottle feeding.

I have UHC also (Empire plan) and they didn't cover it for me

Medela back pack double pump. Please, for the love of God, only get a double pump. When you're pumping in the middle of the night you'll be grateful.

I do plan to breastfeed - hopefully it works out!
I have Empire BCBS - they covered my pump, I got the Medela Freestyle from Edgepark.
Since I got the pump through insurance, no pump on the registry. But I haven't added any other breastfeeding supplies (except for the boppy/brestfriend) to the registry because I plan to get them myself.

I don't know if they do. I haven't checked yet ebcause I have a deductible and want to make sure that's met before I call them.

No. It's so hard to know if BFing will work. so my plan is to EBF for the first month or so and then if it works out I'll get a pump.

Either a Medela or I think there's the Ameda Purely Yours or soemthign liek that that seemed to get good reviews in Baby Bargains.

This is what I did-if you are planning on BFing, its not reccomended to start pumping until around 4 weeks or when baby is a good latch. If necessary, the hospital will loan you a pump too.
I've been BFing 9 weeks and going strong (and pumping)....but a friend of mine had difficulty after 2 weeks and gave up-she's now stuck with a $400 pump bc they're not returnable.

I am 9 weeks pregnant and still currently nursing DS and he is almost 13 months old. So, yes, I will be BF the new baby. I may actually end up tandem nursing but that remains to be seen as I am going to let DS lead the way on that one. I own a Medela Pump in Style Advance pump. I went back to work FT when DS was 3 months old so I had to pump while there. My health insurance did not cover it.

If so, which one? Medala Freestyle. Read so many good reviews for it on here and other sites. Going back to work and need a powerful pump since I plan to EBF for as long as possible.

just wanted to remind you all that breast pumps and supplies are now covered under FSA plans, so if your insurance doesn't cover it your flex plan will.
i'm going to try very hard to BF. I did email my insurance to see if they will cover it; if not I will buy a pump using FSA money.
not registering for one - I plan on trying it out using my sister's and replacing the parts; if it works out then i will either continue to use that one or get the medela freestyle.

Here is my suggestion because I just went through this.
My sister bought me the pump and supplies from bru but made sure to ask about the return policy. They said that as long as the pump is not open and the seal is still in tact they will accept the return with a receipt within 45 days of purchase.
I had all intentions to bf but taylor had a very difficult time latching. So the lactation specialist suggested I bf, pump and supplement with formula. So while in the hospital I used their pump and then when I left I rented the same one I was using in the hospital from bru. It was $80 for the month. It turns out my milk never came in so I am formula feeding. I returned the unopened pump that my sister bought me from bru without any problems.
I have united healthcare and the pump is not covered. I am going to see if they will cover the cost of the rental because I was told that they might.

Not necessarily. One thing that I wish people had told me is that BFing is something that takes time to learn. It took a few weeks to get the hang of it, but now I love it and I'm glad we stuck it out.
You're a NYC teacher, right? If you have GHI, they don't cover pumps.

For anyone who wants to buy a pump but doesn't wafnt to spend so much before they know if pumping is for them - I recommend the Medela single hand pump. It's super easy to use and fits in your purse. I had DD three weeks ago and I can pump a five ounce bottle in under ten minutes with it. And it was only around $40! Eventually I will get a double pump but I figured this would be good to start off with.

Are you registering for a pump? I did register for one, but no one bought it. I bought it myself last week. I wanted to have it here. I asked BBB and they said as long as it's still sealed in the box than it can be returned.
If so, which one? I bought the Instyle.
