breast feeding and bottle feeding

I just asked this question on the pregnancy board but was told it would be better to ask here.....I plan on bf but, I want to pump and introduce a bottle at the sametime so my DH or relatives can help out. At what week should I start dong this? I thought it was like after 1 week but some woman have told me 4-6 weeks. TIA Chat Icon

I pump and BF. We introduced the bottle between 4-6 weeks. That way she was already comfortable breast feeding but she took a bottle very well. At first DH would give her the final feeding (and I would sleep). Now she is in daycare and takes 2 bottles of breastmilk a day and I nurse her before and after.

I pumped right away(same week I came home) and my DD never had nipple confusion. I did it so I could measure my BM in ounces.

Re: breast feeding and bottle feeding

At the BF class I took she recommended 3-4wks before you introduce a bottle or pacifer to prevent nipple confusion. I gave her her 1st bottle at 3weeks but introduced a pacifer earlier (@2.5weeks) because she sucks to sooothe herself and I did not want to become a human pacifer.

I Bfed and then supplemented with formula right from day 1. Some kids may have a problem witht his but he took to both very easily.
