brazilian waxes during pregnancy
i've been getting these done regularly for the past 4 years or so. is it safe to get it done while preggers and does it hurt more than usual?

Re: brazilian waxes during pregnancy
I know Hayley (maybeamommy) did this throughout her pregnancy-she was fine and gave birth Friday to the sweetest little baby boy!
I am afraid of waxing down there normally, so I am of no help. It is possible that you can be more sensitive because of the increased blood volume (like my eyebrows never hurt before now), but every person is different.
It is safe as long as you go somewhere reputable and clean, which I am sure you do. Pain, I can't help you with because pain is a personal thing!

Re: brazilian waxes during pregnancy
I stopped doing brazillian and do a regular one. it hurt a bit more but I wasn't reacting too much, my waxing lady said she was surprised becaues it really hurts most pregnant women. I def. would not have been able to do the brazillian wax

I've never had it done before but can't see what i'm doing now shaving and too much work but i'm afraid of the pain. Trying to minimize as much pain as possible until D Day...

Do you have a maternity spa near you? I know there's one in NYC. You could probably get waxed there since they are used to big bellies!

Re: brazilian waxes during pregnancy
Your skin is more sensitive during pregnancy so waxing may hurt more. Other than that, it's safe and I know a lot of women do it while pregnant.

maternity spas usually won't touch you until you're 12 weeks... so you may have to go to another one first.

Re: brazilian waxes during pregnancy
I haven't gone since getting my BFP. My skin has become way too sensitive. I have always had sensitive skin, and now it is even more so. I have been shaving which I hate, and I know eventually I won't be able to once the belly blocks it. Not looking forward to that.

Re: brazilian waxes during pregnancy
In my experience, it definitely hurt a lot more than it usually does and my skin was red and sensitive longer also.

Re: brazilian waxes during pregnancy
I had no problems with pain or waxing until I got it done 8 months pregnant. Then I don't know if it was because my skin is pulled so tight, but YOWZA!!!! It hurt, and my hair grew back super fast too! BUT I am still glad I did it.

Re: brazilian waxes during pregnancy
My wax girl told me it perfectly safe, especially after 1st trimester, but there is sometimes more redness and swelling due to pregnancy and chance for infection is increases again due to pregnancy. She's a paranoid clean freak so I didn't pay no attention.
I was lazy and only got done at 6th month. It wasn't more painful but she said she noticed a bit more redness than usual. She always uses an antiseptic before and after, but also encouraged me to put neosporin on it and wear loose clothing for the next day or two.
I had no issues.
If its your first time, it will always be more painful than any other time you ever do it. It definitely gets easier.
eta: I was actually hoping it would more painful, to help me prepare for the pain of un-medicated childbirth

Re: brazilian waxes during pregnancy
I used to get brazilians regularly but I won't while i'm pregnant...I'm afraid of the pain. I've been plucking my eyebrows literally since the age of 14 and it never hurt....but now it's excrutiating! I can only imagine what a brazilian would feel like right now
Plus, i've heard the increased blood flow to that area could cause more complications with waxing (burning, tearing skin, etc.)

Re: brazilian waxes during pregnancy
does any one know if taking 2 tylenol beforehand would help? i usually take 4 advil when i'm not pregnant and that definitely takes the edge off, but i know advil is a no-no while pregnant.
