Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
I purchased a small, simple bouncer...but now Im seeing these swings online...is it necessary to have both or do they both do the same thing except one is a little nicer than the other?

thinking it depends on the kid, DD hated the bouncer, but loved the swing! Bffs DS Hated the swing, loved the bouncer. This time I am going to try the Mamaroo! It's the one piece of baby gear I am super geeked about this time around.

Thanks! Maybe I'll try the bouncer since I have it and see how likes it..

I had both, DS didnt like either. The bouncer was good though when I was in the shower he would sit in the bathroom with me.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
we used the bouncer only when she was VERY little. the rock n play pretty much replaced it by 2months. however the swing IMO is essential.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
I used the bouncer for months - when I showered, she was in it playing with the toys above her; when I cooked, she was in it watching me; when we went to the ILs, she hung out in it. (The rock n play was her "bed" so the bouncy seat was where she sat when it wasn't bed time.)
DD hated the swing so we almost never used it.
Once she outgrew the bouncy seat, I had to find somewhere else to put her when I shower. She now sits (stands?) in a go-pod in the bathroom when I shower. Had to do that around 7 months when she got way too strong to be held into the bouncy seat.

I don't think both are necessary. I chose a bouncer.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
My DS loved the swing so much. He would take 3 hour naps in it, which was wonderful. I recommend everyone get a swing that goes either forward to back and side to side. DS only liked the side to side motion. I had a bouncer too, and its great to have as well. You can move it easily around the house and put it up on a counter.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
It really does depend on the kid. Neither one of mine really cared for the swing that much. But yet I;ve heard of other kids that could spend hours in there! They were often very content in their bouncers though.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
I have a two in one. The seat of my swing comes off and is a bouncer. Love it since it saves space. He loves both. Not at first but at about 6 weeks he started to like the swing and now loves both.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
We had 2 swings and 2 bouncers for the boys and they LOVED them. We'd use the swings during the day and bouncers to sleep at night.
For my kids, both were a must have.

Definitely - they serve totally different purposes IMO. Besides, there's only so much to "do" with a newborn - at least having both offers a little variety in the day

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
The swing was the most used item purchased off the registry. My dd lived in her swing in the beginning and napped in it until 8 months old!!!!! My dd wasn't a fan of the bouncer but I used it everyday while I showered.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
I found both of them to be useful. DS loved the swing. He wasn't really a fan of the bouncer, but I would put him in it in the bathroom when I needed to shower and get ready. I liked that he was nearby and I could hear if he was getting really fussy.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
I got both. I wanted the bouncer for travel and to put her in when I am in the shower since it's light and easy to move around. The swing will stay in our living room.

I agree! I also agree with the pp who mentioned to get a swing (if you're getting one) that goes both side to side and back and forth. I also think that a swing that can be plugged in is a lifesaver because if the baby winds up liking it and you run out of batteries it would stink.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
The swing was a total lifesaver for me. DD loved it from very early on and used it until she was 1. We had to get a second motor from FP because she used it so much. If you do get the swing, be sure to get one that plugs in.

ITA!
We had a swing, bouncer, rock n play sleeper - and they were ALL used. They all provide different types of movement for the baby. One type might work better than another for your baby, or he/she might like them all!

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
We have a swing and a bouncer and couldn't live without either of them.
DS liked both a lot and spent a decent amount of time in each of them. The bouncer is great since it's easy to tote around the house. The swing took up a lot of room but, it was the only place he'd really nap (other than being held) for the first 6 months of his life.

Re: Bouncer vs. swing- Do you need both?
we bought the swing that is a 2 in 1 bouncy seat so we didn't have 2 more things in the house. you can just detach the seat from the swing and it's a bouncy seat. honestly, we didn't use it that much especially since we had the rock and play sleeper, but we did use the swing!

The 2 in 1 sounds like a good solution - who makes it?
