let me guess...this is your first kid?
My daughter weighs about three pounds more than most kids her age...and I have been eyeballing half scoops for more than 8 months...so clearly there is no issue. Wait until you have your second kid...you will be so relaxed that you'll just dust off their binky on your pants when it falls off the floor and stick it back in their mouth! good luck!!!
Or you can wait until your first is a few months older and you'll be doing all this too!
I always eyeballed half scoops...it's really not that precise.
And I never boiled water- unless you are living in a 3rd world nation- I really doubt the water needs to be boiled. Just used a Brita to filter it

I used either poland spring or baby water in the huge container with the spout. I left it on my counter. Every night I filed playtex bottles with water. When it was time to make a bottle I measured out the formula and dumped it in and shook it. I did use 1/2 scoops I just eyed it and it was fine.

ETA: I bought this handy dandy mixer which works wonders and does not create a lot of air.
Munchkin Formula Mixer (bought at BRU) IMAGE
love that thing but it kills my thumb!
to the OP: i usually use a Brita water filter and Dr. Brown's mixer and make bottles the night before. I have, on occasion, had to make individual bottles and "eyeballed" the half scoop. i don't think it's going to do that much harm imo...
