Re: blood type
yep! it means you are RH negative. I had to get one shot at 5 wks bc I was bleeding. the next one I have to get is 28 weeks. I think you also have to get it after the baby is born but I'm not sure about that. As long as you get the shot you will be fine.

Re: blood type
Yep, I will, when I get pg. I also had to have one after I had miscarriage and I believe you need it you have any bleeding. It is because you are rh-. If the baby has a postive blood type and your body recognizes the blood type as positve, either during your pregnancy or birth, or anytime your blood might mix with the babies, Your body would try to make anitbodies against the blood type. So the next time you get pg it would affect that pregnancy. So the rhogam shot prevents your body from forming those anitbodies. If taken properly it is totally effective and actually a good thing. Before the shot was invented people who were rh- had difficutly having more than one child.

Re: blood type
mercifully, both DH and I are +... I was worried about having to deal with rh factor after I got my BFP... (I didn't know my blood type at the time... I know, I'm flaky...)
( I should add that I didn't realize at the time that it is taken care of in such a simple way.... )

Re: blood type
If you are (-) negative type you need the shot so that if baby is (+) the baby doesn't reject your blood. I'm negative too

Re: blood type
Yes I needed this also. I had it at 28 weeks and will get it again in the hospital. Luckily I had no bleeding at all during my pregnancy so I didn't need it any other time.

my guess is that you have a positive blood type - the doctors would have definitely mentioned it if you are Rh -

When did this come up?
I know I am O+
My hubby *thinks* he's A-
Is this something we should discuss with the doctor or will they bring it to our attention on their own?

Yep, I did. You are RH- and you need the shot at 28 weeks and possibly after you deliver.

Re: blood type
With both of my pregnancies I got a Rhogam shot at 28 weeks. After I delivered my DS they gave me another shot in the hospital as well.

It's not an issue when you are RH positive.
