Blood Test before TTC
DH and I aren't trying yet, but will be in the not so distant future. My OBGYN is sending me for a blood test to see if I am a carrier for certain diseases. Does anyone know what they look for? I kow cystic fibrosis is one.

are you jewish?
both DH and I are jewish so i had a full genetic panel done since eastern european jews tend to be carriers of a bunch of diseases. i came back fine so DH didnt have to go. there were at least 30 different things they were testing for.

I had this done and I'm not sure all the tests cause there was a lot..11 viles worth..but they check ur cholesterol,sugar,thyroid,hiv test std test..they tested me for fragile x...know there is more but I can't think

Probably cbc, blood type (inc. Rh titer), genetic diseases, syphilis & HIV.
My first prenatal appointment inculded bloodwork and there were atleast 10 viles drawn

Fragile x, hiv, stds, hep b & c,FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (lutenizing hormone)...that's All I remember.

I started TTCing and then saw the doctor a few months later. (this past june) they never sent for these, but I did have recent basic blood testing done that I brought with me, maybe that's why

My OBGYN did not make me but I went for a physical and asked for a full blood work up before TTC. I just figured I might as well. DH actually did too, but he get his bloodwork every year (MIL is a nurse and he always has).
IMO it can't hurt

Not really. Better safe than sorry. I always get the full panal work-up when I have a physical. My drs are very thorough.

my dr also had them check to see if my rubella vacine was still present...if not she would have wanted me to get it again and then wait 3 months before TTC...I was good to go though!
