bittersweet anatomy scan - GREAT UPDATE!!
We had our anatomy scan today, and found out we are having a  . We are beyond thrilled as it will be the first girl in DH's husband for 5 generations.
Unfortunately, there is also some bad news. The U/S is showing a hole in the heart so we need to meet with a Pediatric Cardiologist on Wednesday. In addition, the hole can be a marker for a chromosomal condition, so despite all previous tests coming out fine, the doctor feels strongly that I should have an amnio. We scheduled that for this Friday.
I was so unprepared for this news that I am having a pretty tough time processing it. And since I don't feel like talking to any friends or family right now, I'm thankful that I have this board as an outlet.
I could definitely use some positive thoughts right now, and would love to hear if anyone has heard of a similar situation that turned out fine.

We just got back from the pediatric cardiologist and it turns out there is no hole!!!! He looked at several different angles but couldn't find anything that even resembled a hole and the blood was flowing fine. He said there must have been an error with the original U/S or that the baby was in a different position. Regardless, I no longer need an amnio, so we are so unbelievably relieved.
Thank you all for your prayers and support the past few days! It really helps to know that no matter what you are going through, you have a lot of people pulling for you!

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this! Although my anatomy scan came back with different issues, I know exactly how you feel right now. I didn't want to talk to anyone when we got home on Thursday and its still been hard. I will be praying for you, DH and your little lady.

First of all congrats on your baby girl
I'm sorry you have to deal with this and my thoughts are with you guys. My sister was born with a hole in her heart (also detected before she was even born) and is now 16 years old

Just wanted to say that a hole in the heart is actually a pretty common thing, a lot more common than you would think. My DD had a small hole and we had to see a pediatric cardiologist after she was born (as well as do another scan while the baby was in utero). It took about 2 mos for the hole to close, and the cardiologist was not overly concerned at all. So I hope the same thing happens for you that it just closes up on it's own and it not a big deal!

From what I understand, a hole in the heart is fairly common. Many resolve even before the baby is born!

I have heard the same thing and I hope that is the case for DD! Congrats on the wonderful news of finding out you are having a girl!!
