Birthday Party Locations (list)
Now that I've wrapped up my birthday season, I thought it would be helpful to start a thread for birthday party locations to give new moms ideas of places we've been & suggestions. Ok, really it's because I'm throwing out paper & didn't to lose the info in case anyone else needed it.
2007 pricing:
Vanderbilt Planetarium
$200 for 2 hours includes 20 tickets to a planterium show or play.
Additional tickets for play - $8.00 pp
Additional tickets for planetarium - $4.50 pp
We choose the Planterium. You are responsible for all food & decorations. They give you an assistant to help out. We used the smaller classroom with an open door for a courtyard, where the kids could run around. I ordered white cupcakes with silver dots (kind of space-like) & put an American flag on them. For plates, etc, I was bought 70% off Fourth of July plates with stars on them. Favors were Astronaut freeze-dried ice cream ($1.85/each)

You pick the movie. Usually parents bring in bagels (beforehand) or pizza (afterwards). My suggestion is to opt for bagels - and I have a huge platter you can borrow while you pick up the pre-sliced bagels from somewhere.

I haven't been to a party here but it's a place I'm looking into:
Sweet Briar Nature Center
Cost: $120 minimum for up to 20 children. For up to 25 children add $8 per child. Membership required - 2008 Family membership is $35.
Choices of Parties include (click on the link above, this is just a sample):
Animal Interviews
(Recommended for children ages 3 and up)
Children will meet and interact with animals from each group of land animals with backbones, including an irresistible mammal, a friendly turtle, and a slithering snake.
Mammals
(Recommended for children ages 5 and up)
Children will meet and interact with a few of our furry resident animals, including a ferret, chinchilla and a hedgehog. Some skulls and skeletons will also be shared
Reptiles
(Recommended for children ages 5 and up)
Children will meet and interact with members from most of the groups of reptiles, including three kinds of turtles, lizards and a snake.
Feathered Friends
(Recommended for children ages 5 and up)
Children will meet some of our fathered friends, dress up in bird costumes and learn what makes a bird a bird

Also rather than a cake, I'd opt for cupcakes because cutting a cake outside of a restaurant or house gets pretty messy.

I know they do school functions, boy scouts etc...but so far as I know, it needs to be an organized type of thing...They have a whole little skit they do for b-day parties, so its kind of specialized (like not open play)
