Beware of Dog sign?
The other day, we were expecting a contractor to come by to give us an estimate. I was in the house with my DD and my DH and FIL were working outside and our dog was out in the yard with them. We have a completely fenced yard.
The contractor (whom we have never met before) never came to the door. He opened the gate to the backyard and walked in. Our dog, being the protector she is, ran toward him in a full barking frenzy. She didn't bite him, she didn't even get close to him. She halted about 15 feet away from him and barked until my DH told her it was okay. A little toy dog would've done the same, but our dog is a 50lb rott mix and her bark is a little more ferocious.
Do we need to get a BEWARE OF DOG sign or should I expect people not to walk right into our fenced backyard without knowing who we are?

Re: Beware of Dog sign?
i do find it a little strange that a stranger would just walk into your backyard. he should have came to your front door.
if you get a beware of dog sign, maybe only put it up when you know you have someone stopping by. what if your dog bit him? then you would have a problem

Get the sign. I had a guy from Verizon walk in our backyard not once but twice at two different times. Leaving the gate open to go back to his car and get something. This wasn't an appointment, mind you.
And my oil hookup is technically inside the fence. They like to know when they might have to confront a dog too.

i agree.
i make sure to always tell "service" people prior to their arrival that i have dog. i tell them again when they arrive and ask if they would like me to leash him or put him in separate closed door room.

Re: Beware of Dog sign?
I have 2 small dogs and I don't trust the LIPA man to close the gate properly once he is done. I have 2 gates. Both are locked. I would not take a chance. Get the signs too, especially if you are not going to lock the gate.
Having said that, I just don't understand why someone would just go into someone's backyard unannounced. Common courtesy would require him to let you know he is on your property and you can show him the way to your project.
It really annoys me when people start their own little thing and wander on your property and taking such liberty.

Re: Beware of Dog sign?
We aren't worried about her getting out. Our utilities are outside the fence and she's inside when we aren't home.
We have a side door right inside the gate and the front door. While I always go to a person's main door, he might have been confused as to which door to use. I think I'll make a little sign to attach to the gate directing them to "please use the front door - dog may be in backyard".
Thanks for your input!

Re: Beware of Dog sign?
Yes you are giving people fair warning before stepping foot on your property that there is a dog....kinda like enter at your own risk
