best ToTers
please share stories (and pictures if you have them) of the best Toters that came to your door!
i have two to share.
best costume of the night: a combo... one was a TACO and the other was A BOTTLE OF SRIRACHA SAUCE. loved it!
best ToTer attitude... one kid who came to our door saw the candies we had to offer and liked them better than some candies he already had, and offered to TRADE!! he reached into his bag, pulled out a Smartie, put it in our bowl and took an extra Snickers. i almost died laughing!! i love Smarties, so i took his deal!

best ToTers
I had mostly teens with lame half costumes.
But my 14 year old son went to one house where the candy bowl was outside and the sign said "only take 3, you are under surveillance". So, being a bunch of 14 year old boys, one of them said to the other "dude take 4, what are they gonna do". Then the guy comes flying to the door and starts screaming at them and threatening them. The guy was sitting inside his house watching the kids on a monitor!! How ridiculous. If you're home, answer the damn door, how lazy can you get!

Sorry but I think that's pretty funny.
We literally had one set TOTers at almost 8:00 bc we'd been out all day. One older boy grabbed a huge handful and dh just calmly said take one which the kid ignored. The next kid actually asked if they could just have all of it and dh said no. Dd then came running over and asked if anyone wanted a toy instead and at least the last kid was nice enough to say no thanks lol.

I think that's hysterical, something I would do, not really, but still funny....serves them right for being greedy...he was generous enough giving out 3 pieces of candy! Im a one and done and wouldn't give to kids that old anyway.

LMAO Wow that guy had a lot of time on his hands to sit there watching a monitor and actually count how many pieces each kid took. I mean he must have had it on zoom to actually get that detailed on the number of pieces

Me neighbor's 10 yr old son was King Kong but the costume was hysterical. He was in full costume, head to toe, and then the costume inflated with air so he looked like a really huge (but short LOL) King Kong. It was very cute!

Really? They were all wearing costumes. I will give candy to any age with a costume on, even an adult. They didn't even take the 4th candy, they just talked about it and them got yelled at.

Yeah I don't think 14 is too old to get candy. Hell I had a mom in her 40s come to the door with her kids, she had on some kind of costume I think, nothing crazy, maybe some face makeup and a head band or whatever.....and say trick or treat and grab a candy from my bowl for herself.
I had 40 lbs of candy and I have about 10 lbs left today- I am not going to nit pick over who gets candy. I don't want it left in my house. Please- take it. Satann himself could have showed up and I'd have been like- here take a few kit kats, please!
ETA -by the way, you can't type out S@tan on here. it got starred out when i spelled it correctly the first time. But asshole you can. LMAO

Re: best ToTers
We had a few small kids and a few groups of teenagers in those character pajamas you find at target. I live in a community with tons of kids. The streets should be mobbed (like they were when I was a kid).
I think trick-or-treating is a tradition that's coming to an end. My husband disagrees with me, he thinks there are just as many trick-or-treaters as there has always been. Everyone I talk to on LI says there were very few ringing their doorbell though. Even in 2015, if I remember correctly, it was a Saturday and we barely saw any kids TOTing.

See by me, the streets were mobbed! There were points that if a car had to get through, it would have been difficult as there was just wall to wall kids. I bought a TON of candy and while I have leftovers, I definitely gave out most of it.
i really think it depends on your neighborhood and how many kids live there etc

That's awesome! I used to buy so much candy, but it seems like every year we have less and less kids coming by. I love seeing the kids all dressed up and now that my son is TOTing age, I want him to be able to enjoy it like I did as a kid.
I ate more candy than I even gave out lol. I know they have events at all the schools around here, so I was thinking that's taking the place of TOTing for a lot of kids. I'm glad to know it isn't everywhere though.

It definitely has to do with the neighborhood. On my block, we are the only family with a child under 10. Very little TOT going on. But go one block over and the street is mobbed for hours. The houses all come out and celebrate. It's a great time. My block, dark and crickets. We TOT one block over to have some fun. For the 5 years I have been here, we have probably had 5 TOTers total combined. It's sad.

Sorry, I usually agree with you Nell, but I think TOT needs to stop at like 11/12 it gets ridiculous ...just my opinion and obviously I don'r run the world and can't enforce it so my beliefs aren't a threat to anyone on here!!!LOL

To be honest I didn't really look at them long enough to know if they were 11, 12, 14, 15. I just kind of put the bowl in front of them and said- go for it! LOL

Re: best ToTers
Cutest costume we saw was a baby dressed as Charlie Brown who had no hair and the parents drew a curl on his forehead, super cute.
By us is amount of kids greatly depends on area. We usually go a few blocks over where houses are close together and streets are quiet and we saw tons of kids out and about.
Our house on the other hand is a hi-ranch on a small cul de sac and we hardly have any trick or treaters.

def depends on the area. Where I am in CT, we got 1 literally 1 tot'er. But we went out into other parts of my town. Our Main st, one house gives out 3,000 pieces of candy, no joke.

We live OOS and in our neighborhood Halloween is epic. Streets are mobbed, golf carts decorated, people set up tables with candy, and adult jello shots and shots of straight up liquor. It goes from about 6-8:30 and then the streets are quiet. We give out tons of candy.
I saw a mom with a newborn where the baby was a baby mario and she was weaing him in something that looked like a green sewer pipe from Mario Bros. It was adorable.

Re: best ToTers
On my block, I only get about a dozen TOT'ers. But we went to my sons' friend's neighborhood that is just across a busier street from my neighborhood and there are literally hundreds of kids. There is no way you can drive down there. It's insane. It's a lot of fun.
The only funny TOT story I have is my 2 yo got really into TOT'ing this year. He ran up to this one lady who was handing out candy and yelled "trick or treat!" and she said "Oh! I have something special for you!" She reached in her doorway and grabbed a bag of halloween pretzels and put it in his bucket. I"m sure she felt that was safer for him to eat and I thought it was very nice of her to consider the smaller kids. He looked at it, looked back at her like are you kidding me lady and yelled "I want a treat!" I was mortified but at the same time I thought it was hilarious that even at 2 years old he knew it was lame pretzels in lieu of delicious processed sugar!

My favorite was my 6 year old yelling at a group of teenage boys that emptied our entire candy bowl.
We were just going to the house across the street, the bowl was on our front step, she saw them empty it and yelled: "why are they taking all our candy? They're not even dressed up! They're stealing!"

Same here for us. We moved OOS and this is our first Halloween in SC, it is amazing how different it was from our neighborhood on LI. Tables set up in the driveways, golf carts decorated, throwing candy out. One guy had a hayride attached to his pickup, handing out beers to adults. It was so much fun this year!

Re: best ToTers
I had a girl who was a sushi roll.
Then had one that was dressed up as a cake. Poor thing nearly tripped up the drive way because this thing had like a 4 foot circumference.
I also had kids who rang the bell and got scared and ran away so I had to go after them and give them candy. Their moms thanked me.
I have to say the kids were polite. And all trick or treating was done by 6:30p
Kept the lights on until 8pm. then we were closed for business
