Best OTC Eczema cream?

I have read sooo much online about eczema creams for DD. I have tried almost everything I've read about or been told about. Something someone swears is their miracle cream either won't work or makes things worse for someone else.
We are using an Aveeno cream for DD right now. Her skin is amazing compared to what it used to be, but I honestly can't tell you if it's the cream or that she is finally grown out of the worst of it. (Dermatologist always told us she would grow out of it).
The Aveeno we use says "overnight" on it. I think it might be longer lasting and helps keep her from scratching in her sleep.

We used CeraVe for a long time and it was ok.

Exederm is good for flare ups but it has cortisone so you can only use it for short periods.

I've been using Neutrogena hand cream lately for every day use and I really like it. It's similar to aquafor but not as sticky.

Re: Best OTC Eczema cream?

Yes I'm looking for something to use on my flares.
My neck and behind my ears and my whole hair line flare up and get flaming red and itchy.
It's annoying and when I wear my hair up it looks awful- like someone was strangling me.
Ugh

Check out national eczema association online. There are recommended products for all different categories like face cream, hand cream, shampoos, etc.

None. Get something form the dermatologist. Only thing that works. That and being gluten free.

I think you could probably use a dab of the Aveeno overnight on your hairline. It's not horribly greasy. Is it possibly psoriasis? DH used to get that behind his ears. All these skin conditions get confused a lot, even by doctors...

I use this every day. The instructions don't say you can't, it just says no more than 3-4 times daily. I have it terrible behind my ears and it works if I am consistent.

It was diagnosed as eczema a few years back but who knows. I found the prescription creams were good, not great.

Giving up gluten is not an option. I"d rather deal with some flaring skin here and there than face a life without pasta and bread.

Try O'Keefe's Working hands, no joke. I've had eczema my whole life and no steroid cream has worked as well as this. I even made my mom use it on an eczema spot on her hip that kept coming back after she would use the prescription creams. Gone after a few days never to return!

Are you sure it's excema and not psorasis? I have psorasis on my neck along my hairline. It's awful! Looks the same as what you said..like someone has strangled me lol. I've tried every single thing....even excema creams, nothing works. A steroid cream works...but then it comes back with a vengeance.

Oh, I tried the Okeefe's...had high hopes since I read about it on here! Didn't work for me :(

It was probably me who recommended it ! Sorry it didn't work for you. I've been able to get rid of my eczema for years now with it. In any case, it's a good moisturizer for your hands!

How do they tell the difference? Do they biopsy it?

I don't think so, I think they can just tell. Psorasis is usually thick scales...kind of like what the strangulation lines are lol. They do itch and flake, but aren't usually bright red. More of a white or even pinkish. Excema is like patches of bright red skin I think. I do think many doctors confuse the two.

Have you tried coal tar shampoo? It smells horrid, but it does work a bit. I try not to use it a lot since I've read it is linked to cancer (isn't everything though?). But, I've read that it clears people right up. I think mine is more diet related..ice cream or excessive dairy, and tomatoes seem to aggravate it!

Interesting. Mine flames bright red and isn't really scaley.
I think T Gel is a pine tar shampoo. If so, I have used it ans it helps a bit. (Destroys my hair though).
I find mine flares most due to stress. And I probably have some food triggers too but I can never figure them out.

Re: Best OTC Eczema cream?

Thanks OP for posting about this! I am going to try the OKeefes, cant hurt I guess.

I have struggled with Eczema on my hands for years - when I was a kid I used to get it on my elbows as well...every time I go to get my nails done the ladies are appalled at my hands and try to talk me into the paraffin treatments. I am like NOOOOO that will make it worse! I have a skin disease! LOL and they dont understand and keep suggesting paraffin Chat Icon

Re: Best OTC Eczema cream?

I recently started using this Gold Bond Eczema Relief

I haven't been using it long enough to say how well it's working for me but so far I like it. There's no greasy feeling at all once it's rubbed in, which I like (usually eczema creams are super thick).

I get eczema mainly on my hands. I have a prescription in the house and sometimes I find if it's particularly bad, all I need is to use the steroid cream for a day or two to "take the edge off" and then the over the counter stuff takes it the rest of the way.

My dermatologist gave me a prescription cream. That was the only thing that really worked. I used it with Aquafor and it cleared up instantly.

Mine is on my hands so I used to sleep with gloves on after putting on the lotion to make sure it fully absorbed.

Best OTC Eczema cream?

Just curious OP... Is any of it stress induced? I have stress induced eczema and NOTHING worked until I lowered my stress levels. Do you notice more of a flare up during stressful times?
