Re: Be honest...

I am surprised at how many people don't like wallpaper also.

Done the right way, i.e. as an accent wall or in a very formal room, I think it can be beautiful! I am considering doing an accent wall in my formal living room with wallpaper.

My SIL has red silk striped wallpaper in her formal dining room, and it is absolutely stunning.

Re: Be honest...

I don't like it because if you want to change it it is such a PITA to take it off. changing paint is soooo much easier.
There is some beautiful wallpaper out there, but I don't think I would ever use it.

Re: Be honest...

LOVE wallpaper. Well it depends on the wallpaper, but I LOVE nice wallpaper. I get bored easily, and I think it is harder to add pizzazz to a room with paint. Wallpaper can add so much life when done correctly.

We only have one (very tiny) bathroom done with antique map wallpaper and wainscoting. Personally I find it more interesting than paint.

Re: Be honest...

I hated removing the wallpaper in 3 of our rooms - totalling in 6 layers of walpaper...and for myself, I don't like wallpaper. I don't like how it ties you to a certain look, how it holds odor or how it looks once it starts to fade.

That said, I have seen some really nice paper recently (someone mentioned Restoration Hardware) and think it looks great when applied properly.

Re: Be honest...

i love wallpaper, actually i grew up with it. the previous owners of my parents' house owned a wallpaper shop. their choices were in style in the 70's--- but still, i think it gave so much character to my parents' house.

i want to experiment with it--- we'll probably do it in small doses. maybe in our bathroom---where the toilet is(separated from the rest of the bathroom)

Re: Be honest...

When we moved in to our townhouse in VA, I had to remove this ugly wallpaper in the kitchen, and it was stuck on pretty good. I've always hated wallpaper.

But then when DH and I were looking at model homes here in CO, there were some houses that we saw that had wallpaper up and it actually looked really really nice.

I love that new grasscloth paper. It's more a wall "covering".
Very natural looking.

Love this too!

I like wall paper when it is done right. I don't love the 80's floral kind, but modern prints, natural fibers and damasks can be really nice.

They are also very helpful for hiding imperfections in your walls.

I like it. Restoration Hardware just started selling some and it's beautiful. I would love to use it in conjunction with their paints and fabrics; everything would coordinate and look amazing.

Agreed! I am on such a wallpaper kick! If it wasnt so expensive i think I woudl wallpaper my whole house. I am definitely going to buy some of the RH wallpaper and do one of my bathrooms. I would love to do my foyer as well but it's just not in the cards right now!

Wallpaper can look really great in the right room and if it's really nice quality.

i like wallpaper. it's easy to put up and comes in tons of styles. i've never been a big fan of painted walls. they look really stark and blank to me.
guess it is from growing up at grammy's house with all the 1920's wallpaper.
