no way. especially at that age they are all over the place. when i give ian a bath i'm kneeling right next to the tub the whole time. if i see hes going to be in there for a while i'll sit on the toilet. but i never leave the bathroom.

I do the same, I hate running out of the bathroom, but if I do, I make him talk to me the entire time.

yup, this is me. Our master bathroom is really big with glass doors. I am always watching DS. May for out for a sec b/c I left the towel on our bed, which I can see in the bathroom and listen the whole time, but pretty much right there next to him

Maybe I'm the only confused one but how would this person be bathing the child if they're in another room reading a magazine  ? Or is that person letting the child play in the tub while sitting there?
To answer the question though, no I would not. As other posters mentioned, I'd be too scared of them drowning or slipping and falling and getting hurt. It only takes a second.

NO way!
I am probably one of the MOST laidback moms you'll ever come across but the one thing I know is that anything can happen in an INSTANT...
Anytime it's bathtime, it's bathtime.. there are no other distractions.. I make sure that I have everything I need so that I don't need to ever turn my back on them while they are in there.. if I don't, I have no problems taking the kids out of the bath/shower and getting what I need.. but I won't leave them alone in there.. (especially that little)

I think you have to be in the bathroom with them at that age. My DS is 3 and the only time I will leave is to get a towel if I forgot it before the bath, and the linen closet door is literally right next to the bathroom door.
It only takes a minute for something bad to happen and I wouldn't want to risk any kind of accident. I worry most about him drowning, but I also worry about him trying to get out and slipping and hitting his head on something.

I still sit in the bathroom with my 3yo DD while she is taking a bath. A couple of times I have bathed both DDs together and I might leave the room for a few secs to bring my younger DD into our bedroom so DH can get her dressed, but our bedroom is right next to the bathroom.
DD#1 loves the bath and will stay in there forever. I bring a book in the bathroom with me and if she's playing independently then I'll read while sitting on the floor next to the tub. Otherwise I interact with her.
I wouldn't feel comfortable being in another room the entire time. I especially wouldn't feel comfortable reading/watching tv/talking on the phone...etc while my DC is in the bathtub in another room.

I wouldn't suggest leaving the room but will admit that at 2 years old, I did do it for things like running to get a towel.
I understand why someone would think it was ok. I really do. BUT...
it's not about the amount of water that's in the tub. It's not even that a toddler could easily lift themselves up. It's that when they go under water, panic sets in. They MAY not lift themselves up which makes it dangerous- and it is true that a child can drown in an inch or two of water.

I never leave. I sit on the toilet or edge of the tub and play with her. I wash her, play w/ toys and sing songs.

I am a worry wart and my DS is a dare devil and a water rat and would think nothing of dunking under for a second to see what it's like, so for me,I don't keep my eyes off of him for a second. too much can happen and I would never ever forgive myself if something did.

I stay w/ DS while he's in the bath. From time to time, I will forget his towel or washcloth and will run to get it, but its 10s (yes I have timed it). Maybe at 4 or 5 I could see straying for a minute or so.
If the person is reading, why not read on the toilet in the bathroom?

My DD is 11 months and I put her in the tub seat with her duckies. I never am further than arms length away and my eyes NEVER leave her. If I have to, I take her out of the tub. If I am short on time, I will get in the tub with her. It takes a split second for something to happen, especially when they are active, and a baby/toddler can drown in an inch of water.
