Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
Honestly - I thought it was a waste. We bought Ali home on Tuesday - by the following Monday - she has been in her crib. She didn't like the bassinet

If you want to start the crib asap, then I would say its not necessary. You have the pack and play which can be used as a bassinet. He/She will not know the difference, I promise.

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
Molly hated her bassinet for some reason. She sleeps in her swing or crib. I borrowed my sister's and I'm so glad I didn't buy one.

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
We used a bassinet at first. Jordana loved the vibrating feature. But we didn't have a pack and play. If you have one, I don't think you need a bassinet. Lots of my friends put their pack and plays in their bedroom and the baby sletp there.

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
We only used the bassinet for 5 weeks when he grew out of it. Now I have the pack and play in our room. It's probably a waste if you want to transition to the crib anyway.

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
We didn't use a bassinet, well our pack 'n play had one, but he hated it. I think because the mattress was not on a solid bottom, so he either slept in our arms or his infant carrier. This only lasted a short while though. Then he went right into his crib.

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
We got a bassinet, tried it once and he didn't like it, it was that 5-in-1 system thing. We returned it and just started him off in the swing and then the crib soon after.

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
Skip it, try a mini co-sleeper instead. Or if you so desire, go straight into the crib....

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
We had one, that my DH's cousin lent to us, but we never used it. She slept in the crib for about 2 weeks but then we started to have sleep problems. We started letting her sleep in the bouncer seat which is where she slept until about 2.5 months when we tried the crib again.

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
I guess I'm in the minority here but I loved having the bassinet. I kept it right next to my bed and it made the middle of the night feedings and changings so easy. I never had to get out of bed (I kept a bottle cooler/warmer on my nighttable). We didn't set up the Pack and Play in the livingroom. I felt that the bassinet part of it was not comfy enough for sleeping in on a regular basis. We rolled the bassinet out to the living room during the day and then rolled it back into our room at night. I did buy a different mattress for it though, as I felt the one that came with it was flimsy. She never had a problem sleeping in there and she slept in it until she outgrew it.

I LOVED my bassinet and Katie did too. She slept so well in it and I loved having her close by. I bought the one from Walmart too and loved it.

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
Used it for 3 mos and if had to do it again I'd put DD straight into the crib....

Re: bassinet or no bassinet?
DS loves the bassinet and so do I. I love having him right next to us so I can peek at him when ever I want.
I also have the bassinet feature on my stroller - he sleeps in that also - I like it cause we can roll him around from room to room or take him out on the deck with us

We did the same thing! I actually miss it some nights! I loved being able to roll over to check if she was breathing or if she fussed. Now I have to walk down a very long dark hall. I do love her in her own room though, but you really do miss having her in arms reach when you are too tired to get out of bed to feed her or change her. We did the same with her formula- kept it in out master bathroom in a protable fridge and just fed her in the bed. So much easier!
