Bad mommy moment this morning...even called 911
DD fell off the changing table onto the hardwood floor and smacked tha back of her head. She cried for about 30 seconds and then stopped and got very quiet and relaxed. That's what really scared me. So we called 911. While waiting for them to come, I putt DD on the floor and she crawled away laughing. The paramedics checked her out and said she seems just fine. They also had me call the ped to see if he felt she needed to be brought to the hospital. He said if she seems OK, then just keep an eye on her, but no need to go to the hosiptal. This was the scariest morning of my entire life. I know it happens to all moms at some point and usually more than once, but man is it frightening!!
If this has happened to anyone else, did anything end up happening later on in the day? This is what I am worried about - that she seems fine now, but will that change in a few hours?

DD fell off her changing table and did the same thing hit the back of her head on hardwood when she was about 9-10 months, I FLIPPPED OUT....she cried, stopped, and then cried on and off, I grabbed her and took her right to my ped, she ended up being FINE..my ped said they're stronger than you think, and they're heads can take a lot....it was more traumatic for me than for her

She was sitting on the table and she was in the phase of throwing things on the floor and watching them go down, so I literally turned my head for a second, and she went to follow her toy that she just threw and lost her balance, and literally looked like she was going head first, I have no clue how she ended up landing, but she landing on her tush first, and then her head snapped back and hit wood hard...I literally saw it in slow motion, it was awful...but she was ABSOLUTELY FINE...I was crying for days afterwards...

Amanda fell off the bed at 5 months. Right in front of me.
My pediatrician told me that she would give any mom a medal who's child did not fall of a bed, couch, etc by the time they are one years old.
You would only be a bad Mommy if you pushed her...

Re: Bad mommy moment this morning...even called 911
My DD rolled off my bed, so I know exactly how you feel.
I rushed her to the ped who was a few blocks from my house and this is what he said. He said to try to keep her awake as long as possible and to note any changes in behavior (was she overly sleepy, cranky, just anything out of the norm). Also to note if she threw up (if she did to call the Ped back ASAP).
He said the most important thing is whether the baby cries as soon as he/she hits the floor. If they do, that is a very good thing. If not, that is when you have to seriously worry because they might have lost consciousness.
I am so sorry you are going through this. When it happened to us, I cried the entire day.

This happened to my DH. He allowed our 6 month old to crash off our bed. We brought him to ped who said he was okay and my DH was so paranoid that he hurt his shoulder we had an xray done....but it was fine

This is what the paramedic/ped said - pretty much the same things to look out for. I debated upon staying home today to watch her, but decided to come to work. She is with my mom, so that makes me feel better. And if I stayed home, I would have ended up calling her anyway to sit with me b/c I would be a nervous wreck. So here I sit at my desk, a nervous wreck anyway, but I am sure she will be fine.

Re: Bad mommy moment this morning...even called 911
TJ has hit his head more times than I can count on our tile and hard wood floors. He is a WILD boy and likes to jump and run.
The 1st time was when he was 2 1/2 months. He rolled off our king size bed onto our hard wood floors. He cried for 30 seconds and than was fine. I rushed him to the hospital thinking he was going to have brain damage (I was a 1st time mom at the time and had no idea). Needless to say he was smiling and laughing with the nurses. They didnt even do a CT Scan.
Another time DH fell with him stepping over the baby gate and he knocked his head a little on the fall. We called an ambulance because he seemed a little out of it. By the time we got to the hospital, he was fine.

DS started standing up and walking, so I stupidly turned around for 1 second to grab my camera and he fell backwards and hit his head. The room was carpeted, but I felt so guilty for turning around for one second. We've all been there; I am sure she is fine!
