Back from sono - Disappointed
I went for my sono today. They were looking for evidence of PCOS, but also I got a +OPK two days ago and I wanted to see if I was ovulating. The sono tech cheerfully told me, "everything looks great! You have a few healthy little follicles." I asked her if I were ovulating, wouldn't I have ONE big healthy follicle? She said yes. Or that maybe I ovulated yesterday and she couldn't see it. But my temps didn't go up this morning, so that's a no. So again, I got a +OPK and am not ovulating. I can't take these cycles that last 70 days or more, I just can't.
On the plus side, she said my ovaries look pretty good. I have a few small cysts on my ovaries, more than average but nothing dramatic. The doctor is going to review all this and call me later or tomorrow.
I'm just so disappointed. I was really hoping that after the +OPK and Monday and my low temps Tues and Wed, they would tell me that I'm going to ovulate today. I feel so let down.

Re: Back from sono - Disappointed
Oh, and DH is off from work today and I told him all this when I got home. He told me to "just think positive." I seriously wanted to hurt him, but if I do ovulate soon that would be working against my own best interests.

Re: Back from sono - Disappointed
dava i am sorry for all this emotional suffering. the only positive is that you are seeking help so whatever is wrong WILL be remedied soon. probably not as soon as you'd like tho.
as for DH, i know the feeling. my DH is always telling me to "relax" and to "think positive." probably the most useless advice ever.

i am sorry, i am in EXACTLY same situation. Got a smiley on Sunday, no temp shift and red/brown spotting yesterday and today
Share your chart, maybe ours are similar too.
Do you have any spotting?

No, no spotting. I'm on Day 23, though, and my "normal" cycles are at least 40 days long.

Re: Back from sono - Disappointed
im sorry you didnt get the news you were hoping for. did you have bloodwork done also?
i really think you may want to consider seeing an RE. it sounds like you have all of the classic symptoms of PCOS, other than the high LH. because PCOS is a huge range of manifestations, i think some ob/gyn overlook them and are hesitant to diagnose. some wont even d/x is at all if you get AF on a semi-normal basis.
even if it isnt PCOS, an RE can at least tell you why your cycles are so long, because your ob/gyn clearly isn't giving you any more information. you can always just see an RE for a consult and see whats up. you dont have to go through any treatment or anything if you dont want to. but from experience i will tell you that its much better to know what the issue is than to aimlessly wait for an O that may or may not come... i had several 60+ day cycles before i saw an RE. i haven't looked back since, it was the best decision i have ever made!!
hang in there!! feel free to FM me if you have any questions as far as PCOS goes!!

Re: Back from sono - Disappointed
I'm sorry you're going through this.
I agree with FlowerWife and highly suggest you see an RE. An RE will do MUCH more extensive testing to really drill down into the issue. I wasted this entire year with my OB/Gyn when I should have been seeing the RE the entire time. Good luck!!!

Re: Back from sono - Disappointed
I agree with Flowerwife. Go see an RE. It was the best decision I've made. Dr Trivax at RSNY explained to me that PCOS is a syndrom and not a disease or an illness. This means that it can show up completely different in every person. There are many different elements and degrees to having PCOS.
I also wanted to add that there were times that I did get a LH surge and never actually O. I know it is frustrating but an RE can definitely take the frustration to a more managable level.
Good Luck

Re: Back from sono - Disappointed
You said in your post that you have cysts on your ovaries -- but the doctors don't seem to think this is the cause of your irregular cycles? I'm not a doctor, but I always thought that was the cause of my irregular cycles. I've had cysts in the past and they were all gone when we started TTC which I thought was part of why it only took us a few cycles. I was never officially diagnosed with polycystic ovaries but I thought any cysts more than one means you have it?
What was explained to me when I was 18 (oh so long ago) was that cysts were a chicken and egg problem (no pun intended) as far as causing your cycles to be irregular. Like, you get cysts because they are irregular cycles and cysts develop because you're not getting your period often enough.
I hope you get some answers soon. I agree with some of the other ladies who suggest seeing a specialist since it doesn't sound like your GYN is really taking all this that seriously.
All the best!

I'm going to go with the others on this and say that you should seek the advice of an RE. You will probably get more answers and at least feel like you are headed in the right direction.
Sorry it didn't work out the way you hoped

Unfortunately, having polycystic ovaries does not necessarily mean you have PCOS. My RE told me I have polycystic ovaries, but he has to look at the whole picture to figure out if I have PCOS. I have just about every symptom except irregular cycles (mine are naturally long, but not irregular). That’s why I think seeing an RE is so important. My OB/Gyn never did all the blood work the RE is doing to pinpoint the issue.
Also, to the OP, it may be possible that you O’ed the day you went to the doc, but they weren’t able to see it yet. Same thing happened to me last week. He couldn’t see the corpus luteum, which would tell him I O’ed, and I did not have a dominant follicle. But he was able to tell I O’ed through my blood work (just no idea when).
