Have you ever met this boyfriend? Something doesnt sit right with me. If I were you I would definietly call her parents. You dont have to ask what her "personal" issue is but that you want to make sure she is ok since you did not hear from her directly. Also I would ask that she contact you when she is up to it that you need to make child care arrangements and would like to know if she has any intention of returning to work. Obviously you can then decide if you want her or not.
I have met him-we actually asked her to come on a trip with us and said he could come along so we spent a weekend with them. If I don't hear from her today I am going to call them later.

I agree with this.
In a sympathetic way I would explain that you need to know what her status is because you cannot be left hanging for 3-4 weeks.
It's a tough situation, I agree because you do form a bond with people who work for you but then the employer card comes up and it sucks.

I don't know maybe I have watched 1 too many datelines and law and order episodes
but that messages is sending off all kinds of red flags for me
I would call her parents for sure- just to check on her- not to ask what it is
but if they have no clue what is going on- then maybe the police need to be called
I hope she is ok

There are too many unknowns here-I tend to agree with those who think you should bypass the BF and call her parents. The fact that he's answering her phone and that you haven't really heard from her worries me.
That said, I think you need to move ahead with finding a new babysitter. I wouldn't tell your candidates that it is short term because you really don't know that. I would tell them that your last sitter left suddenly.
If and when your old baby sitter wants to come back, you can figure out what you want to do. You might really like the new sitter and want to keep her. You might not like the story that your old sitter gives you.
Who knows? The only thing you do know is that you need a baby sitter and pronto. Good luck!

I couldn't agree more!!! The whole boyfriend thing just makes me a little nervous. If I were her parents and you called, as her employer, inquiring about her well being, I would be completely fine with that.

That was one of my ideas but we didn't think she would stay with her parents in that case-probably want to be with her boyfriend ya know?
Oh also forgot to mention that she had cervical cancer in the past BUT she was here the day before until 5PM and seemd fine ...
maybe her cervical cancer came back and she needs surgery

glad you heard from her. Like I said, yoou will find someone else that will be great with the kids...things happen for a reason but I know how tough it is to find someone you can trust with your kids

It really stinks that you have to look for another sitter, but gratefully it happened when she wasn't with your DS's ....What a shame

Thank you but yes I am pretty sure. We txt all the time and i know her language. I am hoping she calls me this week. I am interviewing comeone on Friday who had her own home daycare and is less expensive so we will see what happens
