Baby...i t i s!!

Baby...i t i s!!

Question for you...

If you wanted to have another baby and had that other baby did you then feel completely and 100% satisfied that you were done with having babies OR once that baby started growing up did you long for another?

Trying to decide if I am just addicted to babies ( babyitis!!) and loving that baby / toddler stage OR if I truly, honestly am not 100% satisfied with having two kids and being done!

How do you truly know you are done?

How do you truly know that you will not have regret in 10 years?

If this itch is still there despite 2 years having passed, three miscarriages and life getting back to normal somewhat as my two kids get more indpendent...does that mean I need to scratch that itch or resign myself to life as a family of 4, be grateful for what I have and move on?

Aggghhhh....I wish I felt done!!!

EDited to ADD:

Thanks for all your honest replies...edited to change the title as that was my first thought when I posted it - does that look like baby t i t s...but thought I was imagining it :))))

Babyitis!!

I wish there was an answer to this. I just had ds on Monday, and I already miss being pregnant and can not imagine being done having children. If dh and I had unlimited funds, i would be pregnant every year.

Babyitis!!

After my second, I always knew I wanted more. I knew I needed a break (my first two are 13mths apart) but I knew I wanted another. When dd2 was about 2/2.5, we started talking about a third and dh wavered a bit. I said I had to have a third. I just felt somebody was missing from our family. Someone who almost existed in my heart, just wasnt physically here yet. I knew I'd be sad forever if we didnt at least try. When I had her, I reallybdid feel complete. I still love babies, and would even say I want more, if it makes sense for our family, financially etc. But with my third, tree here was just a burning desire, whereas now it's more I know I would always want another....but now it's my dh who wants a fourth. :)

I feel complete after three, whereas I did not feel the same after two. I just relish my baby being a baby because I know I'm done.
I'll always miss the baby stage and feeling the baby in me but I think a lot of mothers feel that way. My MIL tells me all the time that she would do anything to have them be little again (in that sort of nostalgic way). More babies won't help me not miss that, they all grow up sometime!

Re: Babyitis!!

I think that is a common feeling, especially if you have little ones.
If we have had another girl, we might have tried for a 3rd for a boy. Once I found out I had to go off bcp's because they gave my hbp, I knew it was time for my dh to get a v.
It was sad as it was a chapter in our lives ending but I know as they are older now that it was the best decision and it would have been too much financially, physically, mentally, etc. to have another child.
I am out of the "babyitis" phase and have been for a long time. Most times I am not really even interested in seeing people's babies (unless they are good friends or family).
We are in a new chapter/phase in our lives now and enjoying it.

Re: Babyitis!!

We have two kids and I definitely don't feel like our family is complete. I agree with the previous poster who said there's another baby in my heart that doesn't exist yet. We have a three year old and our little guy will be two in April. We want three kids and we have two close in age. We don't want the third to feel left out, so that made the decision for us to try sooner than later.

Babyitis!!

all i can say is follow your heart and your gut.

i have one son. he'll be 19 in a couple of weeks. i still get a little bit jealous at pregnant women and or women who have more than one kid. my heart aches that my son is an only child.

on the other side, i can't imagine having to deal with more than one personality. i think my head would explode! lol

I am feeling the same way...I have 3 and know that I want another, but I am scared of handling all that comes with 4 kids! If I had unlimited funds, we would probably have 6, but that is totally unrealistic for us! I just love being pregnant and I love watching my kids grow and interact together...I also always wanted to be a part of a big family! I hope that the itch eventually goes away for me, either by having another or just on its own.

We just had our first in November. I had a really scary experience and for awhile was saying she was going to be it for us. Now I can't imagine that!!

Re: Babyitis!!

While being PG with my second and after I has him, I just knew I wasn't done. I was so scared to go for another baby but felt like I would of regretted down the line.

Now I'm pregnant with my third. I feel done already, which I never felt before. I don't know how I will feel after baby is born but I really don't want anymore after this one. I'm already mentally preparing myself to enjoy being pregnant for the last time.

Re: Babyitis!!

I miss being pregnant and feeling those kicks and having the baby all to myself but I am done. I have 3 kids and I knew when I was pregnant with #3 he would be my last. He is now a toddler running around. Sometimes I think to myself maybe one more then I come to my senses lol My family is complete and I know it in my heart. After high school and college there was an adjustment to the next phase of life now I am adjusting to this new next phase. I am out of the baby making and onto the child growing lol

I have 3. I didn't have the done feeling until my 3rd. I know I'm done because I no longer want to be pregnant, I don't want another newborn, I got rid of all maternity clothes as soon as I could. I've been getting rid of baby stuff. I just feel complete.

I have 1 and I want at least one more, maybe a 3rd. My mom is all up in my uterus asking when I'm going to have a second child, and I said to her "We don't have the money right now for a second one!" Then she said "Who cares! You'll never have enough money, you want this badly enough you'll find a way." Then she said "look at drug addicts, they need drugs so bad and they always find the money to get them don't they?" Chat Icon

I know in my heart I need to have another child, the pain of regret not going for it and figuring it out later will haunt me for the rest of my life.

Re: Babyitis!!

I can totally relate! I have a healthy 4 year old boy and a healthy 2 year old girl but just never felt "done"! We had a little surprise in December and I am 10 weeks pregnant with baby #3. My reaction was not one of, "Oh my gosh, I'm so excited!" It was more like, "Oh shoot, I WISH I would have been content with 2!" I know once that baby is here, I wouldn't trade it for the world but thinking about how our life is going to change (now we are outnumbered and don't have enough bedrooms and are going to be broke! lol!) makes me wish I could turn back time and feel content with two! On another note, had we not had three, I probably would have regretted it for the rest of my life but that life would have been a lot less chaotic with 2 kids instead of 3! Best of luck to you whatever you decide!

I have two and feel the exact way you described about a third. Hopefully I feel "complete" after #3, because I don't think DH would be on board with a fourth!

Re: Babyitis!!

I have 3 boys - 3yo and 7mo twins. I can with 100% certainty say that I am NOT done.

I still have 2 babies, so it's not that I'm longing for a baby... I'm just longing for another member of our family. We plan to TTC #4 when my oldest is in Kindergarten and my twins are 2.5-3. If we are lucky enough to conceive and have a forth, I will have my tubes tied during my csection. If after the next child I still feel this way... that will be a sad day because it's just not feasible for us to have anymore than 4 children living on LI.

Also wanted to add. We are not "trying for a girl" as much as EVERYONE THAT I SAY THIS TO ASKS! We are trying for a forth child. If it's a girl, awesome. If it's a boy... then I will just have to start my own baseball team. And if it's another set of twins. Lord help me. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Babyitis!!

I hear ya. I enjoyed being pregnant, going to the dr. appts seeing how much he was growing, etc... (except at the very end when I was just done). I know I want a 2nd eventually but have been holding off until DS is a bit older because I'm just so scared of financially how we are going to handle it (although everyone tells me it will work out). After 2, for sure we are done even if I want another because of finances and space.
