Baby movement/kicking question

At what point are you suppose to count their kicks??? I am 28w & the baby seems to be very quiet today. When do you become concerned?

Re: Baby movement/kicking question

I will tell you what my doctor told me at 31 weeks (he never mentioned keeping track of movements prior to that appointment so I don't know exactly when he would have wanted me to start this). He said to break the day up into 4 hour sections 8-12, 12-4, 4-8, and 8 to bedtime. He said to see if the baby moves at all in each of those sections (even if it is just a tiny bit). If it moves at all you are done monitoring for that 4 hour period. He said if the baby doesn't move in one of those sections to go lie down and concentrate and see if they move in the next 4 hour section. If in that next section they don't move then to call his office.

It actually works out well for me because I was one of those people who was always worrying that I wasn't feeling the baby enough (I have a VERY quiet baby). Now that I have concrete guidelines I feel much more comfortable knowing what is normal and not normal for me to be feeling according to my doctor.

I guess the point of my whole long winded post would be to talk to your doctor and see what he reccomends, because like I said, once I knew what my doctor expected as far as movement every day I was alot more at ease Chat Icon

Re: Baby movement/kicking question

My doc doesn't have you track it unless you are concerned. You know what is "normal" as far as your LO's activity. If you feel like you haven't "heard" from him/her in a while then I'd make a phone call and see what your DR's protocol is for tracking/measuring. Chat Icon
