Baby Led Weaning
I know I have a few months to go, but all my friends are skipping puree's and going right to giving their babies table food and its going really well.
Has anyone done this at all? I am going to skip the cereals and purees this time around and go straight into finger foods.

I won't do it because I think feeding babies is fun but there is nothing wrong with it, I think, because for the first year most if not all their nutrition comes from breastmilk/formula. I don't even plan on doing cereal this time other than to thicken purees, the only benefit DD will get from it is the iron and she'll be on formula by 6 months, the iron will come from there.

I think we're going to skip cereals and oatmeals also and go right to fruits and veggies...

Cna I ask why you skip cereal? Is it just not needed? Do you feel its too gassy?

You don't need to give babies cereal at all as far as I am concerned, if you wait until they are six months old their digestive system is sufficiently matured to eat table food, and as their gag reflex is much more far forward than adults, they don't really choke on the food, while they might gag, they don't choke.

Re: Baby Led Weaning
If I had a second child, I would still do the purees and cereal (though I would skip rice). I remember DS needed time to get used to the act of taking food off the spoon and swallowing, and I would like to give DC purees for a short time.
In our case, DS had problems with table food for quite awhile, he actually had EI services for this. He was still gagging at over a year, though I did find some things around then that he could manage. So moving straight to table food wouldn't work for him at all, but I realize not every child has the same difficulty.

Re: Baby Led Weaning
If I EBF to 6 months, I'd skip cereals and go straight for the food, but only at 6 mnths
Since we are on formula, and I hate it, I rather DS eat good food, than good formula, will start cereals at 4 to get his body ready.

formula (or BM) is still going to be the main source of nutrition until 1 year though.. just so you know
