baby gates and stairs

Did you baby gate the top and bottom your stairs? It seems like it's going to be a nightmare to open a gate at the top and the bottom of the stairs every time I go up or down. Is there an easier way? Maybe something I'm not thinking of.

At any given time, only one gate is locked. I think you definitely need one for both places. For the top of the stairs, the gate is mounted and easy to open and close. For the bottom of the stairs we had a tension gate that you needed to move. When DS was not on the first floor, we took it down. DS is now 22 months and we haven't used the bottom gate in ages - maybe when he was 16 months?

We only have gates at the top of our stairs. My 9 month old has already learned to climb up stairs. I'm really just worried about her falling down them.

Yes, we had gates at both the top and bottom. Top gate was only locked if we were up there. Same for the bottom. It really wasn't that bad.

I have gates at both top and bottom. As pps said, you only close one at a time. And they're really easy to open once you get the hang of them- I can do mine while carrying my 1yr old and my 3yr old (when he insists that he's a baby) at the same time.
