baby gates - in a split?

how do you do it? we have 4 small sets of stairs, each about 5 steps each.

i cannot imagine putting a gate at the top and bottom on each set?

Re: baby gates - in a split?

i think it depends on your layout and what levels you are on with the baby.

We did put a gate on the top of the stairs on the level (s) we spent most of our time with the baby going free. For the other levels with had an expandable gate that we didn't hook up but would put between the railings so they could't crawl or walk up the stairs unsupervised. We just moved that around as we changed floors.

I will say there was one time I forgot to put the gate on the bottom when were on the lower level and was helping my DD with something and my DS climbed up the stairs and fell. He was fine, but I felt awful. If you aren't going to be diligent about it, I would rather be safe than sorry and just put them in.

We have the same....and we got swinging gates for the downstairs only and have taught Andrew not to climb the stairs in the house unless were with him. I still have to correct him alot but it has gotten better.

Just the top stairs. I thought I was going to need like 4-5 gates but honestly I've just taught her to go up and down the stairs. Shes 20 months

Re: baby gates - in a split?

We just bought a split as well and have 3 sets of stairs (about 5 steps each). Just to be safe we're going to put gates on both sides. Definitely annoying, but what can you do.

We have the same house. I had a baby proofer come in when we moved here.

First we did just the tops of the stairs, then the baby came up one of the stairs and feel down it onto the tile.

Now, we have gates at the top and bottom of all 3 sets of stairs, plus at the top of the basement stairs. It's like a prison, but you do what you have to do.
