Baby facing the back?

Has anyone been feeling a lot of this? I am 29.5 weeks and I don't get very much movement (although strong heartbeat on the doppler and we can hear her moving).

DH and I decided to take a drive tonight and I realized she kicks my back (insides) more.

How weird is this? We're seeing the OB tomorrow so I plan on asking how normal this could be???

Re: Baby facing the back?

Have you had a sono recently to see what position shes in? She could be facing backwards?

I dont get a lot of movement either though and he is facnig forward, but then again, no back feeling...just occasionally...

They'll be scheduling my 30 week growth sono tomorrow. I'm kind of hoping they do a quick one there

Re: Baby facing the back?

When I was pregnant with the twins, the way that they were position, was like one was in the front and the other was in the back...So I got a lot of "back" kicks and things.

I dont think the position of the baby is a real issue until labor. At least Ive never been told of any...

Additionally some babies just arent big kickers. My eldest daughter was a stretcher...It was like she was arching her back and Id get a pain on one side real low and another on the other side real high. This is actually the first baby that Ive had that is a real big kicker.

Im sure all will be fine....Let us know about the growth!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Baby facing the back?

My SIL is currently 23 weeks(I believe) & the baby is facing backwards. She was just at the doctor this past Friday bc she was so nervous she didn't feel the baby move. They took a sono & showed the baby moving like crazy but kicking backwards....The baby is currently breeched too. Just Monday she said she could feel kicks in her back & on her bladder

I would not worry too much but next time you go to the doctor, ask them & voice your concerns.

Re: Baby facing the back?

This is very typical of my baby Chat Icon too! We've even seen her facing the back on most of the sono's we've had!

Re: Baby facing the back?

My appt got pushed back since there was an emergency this morning. Got all the way to the doctors office and was turned around. This of course on top of the fact that I have been wide awake since 3am Chat Icon If I had remembered to turn my cell phone on when we left, we wouldn't have driven all the way there.

Maybe it's a girl thing?

That really stinks!!!

I'm thinking it is a girl thing- lol. When I was telling my Dr about how the baby acts when we go for a sono (very uncooperative, hiding, not facing us, etc)- She said "Oh, Yeah, that's definitely a girl!" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Baby facing the back?

That's me! My baby is breech and backwards Chat Icon The backwards part isn't an issue, she just kicks my insides and bladder all day!!!!! (The breech- well, you know the deal w/ that)

You'll feel the baby more as you get further along but it'll be different from everyone else. I'm 34wks and at the moment, I can feel her punching my ribs under my underarm sometimes!!!!

Re: Baby facing the back?

Well, we just got back from the doctor and of course this little girl of mine decides to be real active while they have the doppler on my belly (but I sitll couldn't feel her).
The doctor wasn't concerned that she might be facing my back - we have the 30 week growth sono and vaginal sono of my cervix length next week. Both have to be done on different days since insurance doesn't cover tests on the same day. So next week we'll see where she's facing.

Weird thing though, when DH and I use our doppler at home, her HB is normally in the same spot. Her HB was found at the doctors office completely on the opposite side so I guess that means she is moving....

Re: Baby facing the back?

Baby has been facing my back and head down for about 6 weeks now. I feel the most activity in my upper right-hand belly and my lower left-hand belly. I don'tfeel anything in my back - thank Gob because I had surgery a few years ago and do not need that area to be aggrevated.

Re: Baby facing the back?

My baby was facing my back for a while as well. He was also transverse and then breach until I was 32 weeks. My doctor said it was not a concern because it's normal for them to change directions. He's head down and face forward now at almost 37 weeks. Chat Icon
