At what point should we consider taking her to the emergency room?UPDATE
Ava twisted her ankle pretty badly this afternoon. It's not really swollen anymore since we've been icing it, but she cannot put any weight on it. She tried to walk before and started to cry hysterically and has been crawling around the house ever since. I'm just not sure if it's worth the trip to the ER tonight only to traumatize her and find out that there's nothing they can do. I definitely don't think it's broken because it started to swell a bit, but didn't really get big, and I know broken ankles can really swell. Ugg. Someone give me advice because we're going back and forth over here.

I would take her  Last time I was at the ER for Emma's broken finger, there was a little boy there who needed a cast. The mom didn't think it was too serious, but it was worse than it looked.

U should go no matter what. Did you tell them that it happened? I feel really bad! did someone fall on her? How did she do it? Can you go to a PM pediatrics? OMG...i feel terrible...

I just asked Chris and he said take her and get an x-ray. Even if you waited to take her to the ped, you would still have to get an x-ray

I say take her, it wont traumatize her.
she'll probably be up all nite if it hurts her.
At least they will ease your mind about how to take care of it, if it's not broken/sprained.

Thanks girls. We probably should just take her tonight. Now if I can just convince my husband to not have a hissy fit since I thought we didn't need to go earlier today

If you are going to Stony Brook, I would go now. Their special peds emergency dept. closes at 9 or 9:30, then you have to wait in the general ER. Good luck!!

don't know where you are located. but there is PM pediatrics in syossett. they can do pretty much anything an ER can do, and alot less wait times. they have the ability to do x-rays on site. and they have evening and weekend hours.
hope she feels better soon.

I would go to PM Pediatrics. Less waiting time, pediatrics is their thing & not sure how your insurance is but could save you hundreds of dollars.

I would take her = I knew someone who had no idea their child broke his leg because he was walking around. He was crying so they brought him to the ER to check it out
