Re: Are you going to breastfeed?

I took a free class at Babies R Us. It was informative as an overview, but I will probably take a class at the Hospital...

I BF for a 14 months and I had to pump at work went I went back when he was 3 months.
It doesn't hurt right away but you do get sore the first 2 weeks because your boobs are not used to having someone on them every 2 hours! The first 6 weeks are the most trying.

It is not scarey. It just takes patience and if you have people that support you it makes it easier.

Proper positioning is important, eating right and drinking enough.

Re: Are you going to breastfeed?

I am planning on breast feeding and pumping until I go back to work after 3 months off. Then I will only pump / breastfeed in the morning and give formula the rest of the day.

Re: Are you going to breastfeed?

I'm not. I considered it, but honestly I don't think I can get up every 2 hours in the night to feed the baby. I think I would be exhausted and turn into a mental case. Plus I have to go back to work and don't want to deal with the whole pumping thing. My reasons sound selfish I guess, but it's what works best for me.

LOL I hope not!! I know with DS, we fed him every 4 hours and my husband at the time got up with him most nights so it was nice! Thinking back though, DS was such a good baby. He slept long strides, never cried, etc. I have a feeling this one is going to be the opposite!

I am and I did. I took a class at my hospital and bought a few books to read and have with me inthe hospital. I felt very prepared, which was good, because the LC wasn't in until my last night at the hospital (where she just checked latching)

I did it for almost a year with DS, but I think what helped was not making those goals in the beginning. My first goal this time will make it to the 2 week mark (when the pain subsides and the first 3 days are the most important - for the colostrum) - then to 6 weeks - then 3 months- then 6 months - etc. Smaller goals are easier to obtain and be successful with.

good luck

Almost me exactly, except i BF til i went back to work and I don't plan on BF'ing #2 for medical issues that BF'ing exaberates.

The goals really helped, especially since the 1st couple weeks are the hardest. I also lined up an LC for after the birth to help me and she saw me a couple times too.

Re: Are you going to breastfeed?

I am planning on it and I think I am going to "wing it" and let the hospital show me how after the delivery.

Re: Are you going to breastfeed?

I'm hoping to breastfeed at least in the beginning but plan on stopping by the time I go back to work (approx 6 months after the baby is born)

I did with DD and plan to do so with this one if he/she wants to. I will be pumping in my office and bringing home the goodies until about 1 year old.
