Are we wrong? Or are they?
My husband and I live in a condo that has assigned parking spaces. You get one parking space per bedroom in your condo. We have two numbered parking spaces. Right now, we only have one car and my husband insists on taking up the two spaces "because they're ours."
Today, someone left a note on our car that says "Learn how to park!"
Are we wrong? Or are they?

I dont think you are wrong, but others may not realized that they are both yours. I would switch which spot I park in daily

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?
I say if they are YOURS, park that way. Why not have the extra space if it is yours? Who is ANYONE to tell you how to park in your own spots?
?
If you didnt take them both up, could someone else techincally use them? If there anyway for htem to know they are yours? Or do they just know it is not theirs and they should mind their business since it doesnt effect them.

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?
You guys aren't wrong for taking up both spaces, but why do you insist on it? It just seems weird to me.
Your neighbors probably think you're crazy, but I guess it's none of their business how you use your two parking spots.

Honestly, I think you are wrong. There is no need to park on both spots - they both belong to you, whether or not you use them. If down the road, you get 2 cars and there is an issue of someone parking there, let the condo board know - they'll figure out who it is and put a stop to it.

I don't think you're wrong; I think that the person who wrote it didn't understand or realize they're yours.

No. We are actually leasing the condo. In our lease, it specifies spot #970 and spot #971 as being ours.... so I assume that everyone's leases designate a specific spot(s) for their condo.

Put a big sign on your car when you home that says "ITS OUR SPOTS, FIND YOUR OWN"!!
I hate when people feel the need to leave notes on someones car!

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?
I can think of a good reason to park in both...why not have extra space around your car, for packages, so doors dont hit into your car, etc? To me, I always like having extra space around my car so I can see this as a good reason for using both (since they are yours anyway).

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?
I totally think they are wrong, its your spots why do they care how you choose to park in your own.. what if you have a guest over and they need one of your spots.. and someone selfishly took your extra one.. where does your guest park? totally keep doing it.. park worse and worse every day hahaha

I don't get why you do this. If you don't need the other spot right now why park like that?

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?
If I had two assigned spots, and only one car, I would straddle the spots as well. I don't like other people banging into my car with their doors. If they wrote a note, it just means that they wanted to take your spot for themselves. I don't go up to people's houses and complain about how they park in their own driveway.

My husband just feel like the spots are ours, so we might as well use them. Also, they spots are fairly tight, so he doesn't want anyone scratching the scar or bumping their doors into it (which has happened numerous times before).

I agree with this! That is a good point. Then you are screwed. Plus, people will see "extra" spot everyday and get used to it. One day, mark my words, they will happen to "need" it and not think you "would mind" since they determine on their own by your parking habits with only one car for so long that you don't use it.
I can see it happening so why even chance this starting?

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?
I say park how you want
me and my DH have 2 parking spots that we pay for and they are so tight that both of our cars have dings
if we have two spots next to each other- and only 1 car- his would be parked in the middle

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?
Honestly, even though it's "your" spot, I would stop parking like that. As someone who lives in a neighborhood where parking is quite difficult, it is very frustrating when someone is taking up 2 spaces.
However, I would not have left a note like that on your car. I think they should have approached you and spoke to you about it. Maybe the parking "etiquette" is in your complex is that you leave unused spots open for others to park in.

This is a really good point; however, in our complex you need a remote to open the garage for the parking lot. There is a ton of open parking outside of the garage (unassigned parking for guests/residents), and even inside the garage, there are at least 25 open spots every day and night. The parking lot is NEVER full....

They are wrong. You are entitled to both of those spots, therefore you should be able to utilize them however you feel fit.

I would park on both spots. I hate people banging on my car doors.
Apparently someone wants to use the spot just by the note they left. Why would they want a spot that it not theirs? Even if you don't have another car, I don't see why people feel they can just use your spot. It's yours. If they want to "borrow" it. They should ask you directly.

Re: Are we wrong? Or are they?
i dont think you are wrong...but i wouldnt park the car like that. I would park in one and leave the other spot open. If someone parks in the spot I would leave them a note letting them know it is a reserved spot. If they continue to park there I would let the condo board know
I just get nervous parking weird cause if someone wants to park near they park stupid and your car gets hit
so annoying though!

we have a similar situation, but we only get one spot
i think you're doing the right thing - you're basically preventing someone from parking in that spot, who didn't pay for it
