Re: Are waterproof crib pads a must?
I used a waterproof mattress pad, then a crib sheet, then a sheet saver (as DS was an infant).

Re: Are waterproof crib pads a must?
I have the ultimate crib sheet (a waterproof pad but on top), which has occasionally been useful, but I just noticed that my mattress is vinyl anyway on the outside so I can just wipe down the rare accident - no need to worry about damaging the mattress - so I guess it depends on your mattress. I have a Colgate foam mattress.

Re: Are waterproof crib pads a must?
I use the Lands End waterproof mattress pads. Now that my little one is in a big girl bed, I got the same mattress pad for her bigger mattress. It has stayed really well.
