Anyone's baby born with cord around his/her neck?

I am high risk as it is an for the last few weeks my son has had the cord around his neck. My peri and ob say there is no compression and 30% of babies are born with the cord around the neck but I am a little freaked out by it. I am supposed to really keep an eye on fetal movement, luckily my son is very active. I am having a c/s 5/28 and hope I make it bc my ob says that I have to get to the hospital asap if I go into labor, esp if myy water breaks. Please share some positive experiences to make me feel better!

DD was born with the cord wrapped around her neck. She was very active and came 3 weeks early. The Dr. was sooo fast with unwrapping it as she came out. I didn't even know it happened until she told me, and DH saw it.

DD was perfectly fine and had a very strong set of lungs on her!

DS was born with the cord wrapped around his neck.

I hadn't had a ultrasound since 20 weeks and I delivered DS vaginally. She told me after the fact as oh - BTW...

DS was very active as well.

yes, cord was wrapped around his neck. He was very active in utero, especially the whole week before delivery and DURING delivery!

Sorry to be so graphic, but a Dr (actually, a resident @ SB) with very small hands went spelunking and "unwrapped" the cord as I was about to birth. Lucky for both me and DS, I only pushed 3x over 7 minutes and he was out- His heart rate dropped with every push. He's now a beautiful, happy, VERY ACTIVE 9.5m old.

eta: my water broke at 38wks - i waited 5 hrs to go to the hospital bc my contractions were not terribly strong or constant. he was born 17hrs after my water broke.

Our situation was similiar. The fetal heart rate monitor indicated everything was fine with DS during labor & delivery, my water broke at 8:45 and DS w as born four pushes later at 8:58am. His heart rate dropped a bit with each push, but we weren't too worried. The midwife told me his cord was around his neck and I watched her unwrap it from him.

DS is fine - happy, healthy and BUSy 6 month old.

Yup, the cord was around DD's neck when she came out. Her heartrate was fine throughout except for the very end it dropped slightly with each contraction so they had to give me oxygen for a few minutes and then it went back to normal.

DD's was twice around her neck and once around her body.

her HR kept going down during labor and i had to lay on my side. they didn't know the cord was around her neck until she was born. it could have been very bad for her but she is perfectly healthy. i had a natural birth.

My son was. I don't think they knew before I was delivering him.
His head came out and my midwife though she would be able to slip it off but it was too tight (I guess his cord was on the shorter side) so they had to cut the cord immediately, before his body was out, and then with all my might and little help of some midwife hands we got his body out immediately.

Yep and I had no idea until afterwards.
The nurse told my mom and I in recovery. (i had a c section as well)
It was very loose, so, the Dr. was able to slip it off asap.

My son was. I didn't know till his head was out. They assumed so because his heart rate dropped while I pushed.

DS's was wrapped twice around his neck. We didn't know before I was in labor, and it did prevent him from totally coming down the birth canal before my doctor cut it. He got an 8 or 9 on his APGAR and has had no problems related to it.

I know how you feel, I used to ask our ped to make sure everything was right at every visit the first few months.

yes, it was around twice.....doc cut iit while he was delivering him b/c it was very tight....he was fine

The cord was wrapped around my DD neck also. I had no idea until after she was born. DH could not cut the cord b/c of it, but that was the only issue.

I delivered a baby in a bathtub who's cord was wrapped around his neck twice. The mother never knew it. As soon as the baby's head came out, I was able to unwrap the cord. There were no problems for the baby. He was healthy as can be. He is now 15 years old...

My older DD was born with the cord wrapped around her neck vaginally and wasn't breathing. They quickly got her air and she was fine. She's now 9 with no problems.

My other DD had the cord wrapped around her belly and the lower half of her was blue. But she's also fine.

It is pretty common and the doctors know how to handle it and what signs and symptoms to look for.
