Anyone wish their Dh would get a different Job?

I dont feel that he is currently making what he should be making yet he has zero motivation to do anything about it. I wish he would just get a better job, but he is afriad to leave that he wont find anything. I just feel that there is a ceiling at his job and for that reason he will never be where he needs to be financially.

Re: Anyone wish their Dh would get a different Job?

My DH was like this before when we were dating. When we started getting serious I expressed my concerns to him and he did get a new job. It was very hard for him though, he didn't want to go out of that comfort zone. He knows know it was the right thing to do and he doesn't regret it for a minute.

Re: Anyone wish their Dh would get a different Job?

yes! I would love from DH to switch professions

but be careful what you wish for- b/c my DH wants to take a year off from his carreer to train to fight and be a boucer to make money - until he hopefully goes pro

it's a lesser of 2 evils for me

I am not sure how I would feel watching him fight people for a living

Re: Anyone wish their Dh would get a different Job?

No, but he actually wants me to get a better job. I know I need to, but the job market right now S-U-C-K-S!!!!!! People are getting laid off left and right and I feel terrible, I have a job that doesn't pay well but I feel priviledged to be employed at this point.

I could have written your post ... word for word.

My DH is absolutely brilliant and there is definitely a ceiling where he is. To top that off, they pay less than the industry standard for what he does ... and only give COL raises. He's been working there for 8 years. Chat Icon

I would love for him to take the Actuary exams. He even has some of the testing prep stuff here ... but he's just not motivated to do it. I really think he would really enjoy it, and it pays a heck of a lot better.

He's very comfortable where he is, likes a lot of the people he works with, and almost has no commute. But he's bored. He's not challenged or mentally stimulated with what he's doing on a daily basis.

I don't know if I could have the stomach to watch. Even watching the guys that win, they walk away pretty banged up too.

Part of me wishes that he'd gone the traditional route and just worked at an established law firm for a few years before going at it on his own.

They are doing surprising well - I just want him to make a zillion dollars like tomorrow because I"m nervous and impatient. Chat Icon

I know- I am used to injuries, car accidents, broken noses on the HM

but seeing someone punch and kick him is different

I am trying to be supportive

I feel the exact same way. but scared for him to switch jobs at this moment due to the fact so many are getting laid off.

Both of us are kicking ourselves in the butt.. a few years back he was offered a position as a plumbers assitant.. and at that time i was working with patients that were Hep C.. so i was freaked out he would get it dealing with fecus and stuff. so i asked him not to take position. I was soo stupid. He would have been making great money by now. I wish i could go back in time and kick myself hard in the Azz for that.

Change what he does - no

Be happy with what he does - yes
if that means getting another job with in the same field (cause he loves what he does - but I know he would love another aspect of it better)

Re: Anyone wish their Dh would get a different Job?

Absolutely.

My DH is a landscaper and OMG does he work like an animal. Seriously, he amazes me - watching him work is like watching the tasmanian devil whip through my yard LOL. Unfortunately, he pays for it when he comes home.

He doesn't work over the winter and its getting harder and harder for him to get back into "shape" and sadly he isn't getting any younger.

I worry about him Chat Icon

I wish he didn't work in the city with a job that expects everyone to stay late even though they already work until 5:30.. He is not making enough money for me to think.. "it's okay for him to walk in the door after 8 or 9"
