Had it as a rental when I was in Arizona. It was okay. You keep hearing that a PT Cruiser is actually just a Dodge Neon with a different body, and that's pretty much what it feels like.

I drove one as a loaner - it's really cute, but it's pretty low to the ground.

My friend has one...while it is a "neat" car, it also is a Neon frame with a bigger body. It doesn't handle well and I don't think I would use it for long rides as it gets pretty uncomfortable.
But, hers hasn't given her any problems, although she only drives about 10,000 miles a year.

My screen name here is the same name as my PT Cruiser (it's my license plate, too...  ) I just went to a Memorial Day parade yesterday with several other PT Cruisers from our club (Besides our PTs, there was was one Corvette, and one 1920's truck). Many of the people on the side of the parade had lots of positive comments about the cars as we drove by.
We've had ours for 6 years. The only reason we are thinking of getting a different car is that we don't have a 3rd row. When my mom comes over, and we go out to eat, we need two vehicles.
We've been on several long trips with it, lots of car shows, etc.
It's an extremely safe car (I know of many first-hand stories of people being in bad accidents, and walking away unscathed). It's very roomy for it's size.
It's not based on the Neon platform... old urban legend that won't die..... the original "mule" that they used to test a few ideas was a Neon, but no production PT is on a Neon chassis....
