Anyone on Iron supplement along with prenatals?
I went to the doc last week b/c of dizziness and fainting, and he took blood. Last night found out Im anemic (still not sure if thats the cause or not) but he wants me to take an Iron supplement along with my prenatals. I took last night right before bed and from 12:30-2:00 am I was up in agonzing abdominal pain.
Could the pain be from the iron pill? Should I be taking with food? Also do you eat anything special in diet to combat the results of the iron pill (as in constipation sorry tmi.. just want to be ahead of this in case it happens)?
Thanks
eta: the iron pill he gave me was Repliva

i just found out that i am anemic too. They just put me on Slow Fe and I have to take it 3 times a day with orange juice (apparently it helps your body absorb the iron). To help combat the consitipation they told me to take each dose with either a colace or miralax. I only started this last night so I'll see how it goes!

i would take the pill with food.
not sure if the abdominal pain has anything to do with the iron, but it definitely could be...
i would absolutely take a colace or miralax when you take the iron. you want to prevent the constipation, cause once you have it it's even harder to get rid of...

Re: Anyone on Iron supplement along with prenatals?
I was on Repliva for anemia during pregnancy but I was also anemic before getting PG. I stopped taking it the week before I had Abby because I could not, ahem, well you know and I wasn't DANGEROUSLY anemic anyway.
However, (and this is kind of funny) I thought I was constipated when I was actually in labor. Many people told me that labor feels like you have to poop but I forgot that and took a Colace. Needless to say I had to warn the doctors when they examined me before determining that I was going to have a c-section. Fortunately, it turned out NOT to be an issue.

I took SlowFE and graduated to Repliva. I had to take it with a Colace chaser because of the constipation.

Re: Anyone on Iron supplement along with prenatals?
I was told to take SlowFe once a day as I am slightly anemic. Have not had any issues yet (but I've been forgeting to take it everyday ). I've been eating a banana a day, hoping things will move along smoothly....
So it's OK to take SlowFe and Colace at the same time?

Bananas are binding that might give you more of a problem And yes you can take Colace and SlowFE together.
